I am in market for a new phone, and was interested in Treo 650. I called
Sprint and I was told that I am eligible for $150 instant saving at the store
if I sign 2-year contract, and they will also give me $100 credit towards
the service on my next bill.

I am on a old retention plan, and I do not want Vision, so operator told me
that the store (clerk) can add vision to my existing plan and I could cancel
vision before free period was over.

Is that true or will sprint change my plan on me automatically?

I have heard that for some sprint users the plan was changed automatically
    without their knowledge or approval.

What kind of minutes do you have now? The latest retention deals, at least
as of last month was. 1000 anytime with unlimited nights and weekends
beginning at 8pm for a one year deal and beginning at 6pm with a two year
agreement for $40 per month. Or 1500 anytime for $49 per month with the same
N/W deals.. To get the free 6pm you have to agree to a two year agreement
and you have to ask for 6pm or you'll just get the standard 7pm for the two
year..If you want a new plan, I'd settle on the plan first then get the
phone. You qualify for the 150 rebate, but you have to sign a two agreement
to do so($75 rebate if you only sign a one year) If you get the phone first
with the rebates you'll loose your leverage to get a better retention deal
since you would have already signed a new agreement to get a phone rebate so
they won't be as willing to counter your offers as you are already in a new
agreement. So get the new retention deal plan first then get the phone. I
ended up with the $40 plan for 1000 a/t as I wont sign a two year(as they
always have better retention deals one year later) and I got a $10 vision
picture plan with 100 text msg. last week. This is the retention dept.
direct number 1-866-0882. I called and just asked if they would at least
match T-mobiles 1500 minute plan for $49 and they said yes.

Thanks, I will give them a call, maybe I can get better deal. Right now my
wife and I both have individual plan: 750 Anytime, 3000 night and weekend
minutes, free PCS to PCS for $40.

We do not come close to using these minutes, maybe I can get better
    family plan.

Another place to look at is www.phonescoop.com click on carriers then click
on sprint. It'll show current pones and there is forum there as well, but
sprintusers is better as the forums are full of tricks on using the phones
and sprints services. Also a phone review posted by other people that bought
a phone and they give you there views on the phone..

Do you know if there are currently any retention plans for around $50 +/-
with 1000~1500 minutes, 2nd line included w/shared minutes, and free Vision
on at least line 1? Right now I've got a pretty good retention deal with
similar features but for $100/mo and 2500 minutes, which I've never even
come close to using--I've never even hit 1000, actually. I have 8pm N/W so I
don't really need anything earlier (but wouldn't mind it if that's all they
    had!).

There is a thread on retention deals.. Also look at the general info board.

Can you post the number again? This doesn't seem complete. I'm on a regular
$40 plan, 500 at minutes and 9 pm n/w and $10 vision for my Samsung i500.
When Sprint comes out with the 700p I plan on calling them to get a new
plan. I'm not in contract at the moment.

    Retention Dept. 1-866-571-0882

Sorry about the missing numbers earlier.

The retention plans offered in Dec of 05 for one year agreement was the 1000
a/t, unlimited n/w starting at 8pm(tell them you want 8pm and not 9pm) for
$40 month. Or 1500 a/t for $49. Now if you signed a two year they told me
they(sprint) would start my n/w at 6pm,but I do a new retention every year
with a better plan so I never go two years.. Check out www.sprintusers.com
go to forums and check out the tips and tricks forum as there is thread on
retention deals..Also know what the competitors are doing for price plans..
Right now the only T-mobile in my area(Cincinnati,oh) is listing a 1500 at
for 49. That is the one I used on sprint.. I just called asked if sprint
could offer the same or better than the tmobile plan and that is when the cs
read the two plans to me..

I find the continuing upping of retention plan a/t minutes
to be somewhat useless. My two-year-old retention plan
is 750 minutes for the same $40, and I use less than 350
minutes per month. What good would more minutes do me?
It would be more useful for me if Sprint would offer free
Vision instead of more minutes. Has anyone bargained
    successfully for that?

I agree about the minutes. I suspect Sprint looks at your usage, and
if it is low, they have no qualms about adding more minutes that you
won't use. As I was upgrading from a WW plan, I asked for Vision at
the same price as the WW add-on ($5), but to no avail. Sprint offered
me an additional $5/month download credit, which for me, is about as
useless as the extra minutes. Finally, they gave me a small discount
of the base plan rate. I also took the extra minutes, but will never
use them, unless Sprint comes up with some billing plan where A/T
minutes can be used for data.

However, it never hurts to ask about a discount on Vision. Who knows,
    you might get lucky...

I agree with you on that. I work nights and only use about 350 to 400 A/T
minutes with about 1500 minutes at night. I considered going with the Fair
and Flex plan for $37.99 at 0-400 per month. $5 extra per 50 minutes of
    usage.But sometimes I hit 500 A/T minutes and that's why I asked about
different retention/loyalty plans, and they were actually offering the 1000
A/T for $40 per month.. Cheaper for me that route as my old retention plan
    was 1000 A/T,unlimited n/w at 8pm for $50 a month. If they didn't give it to
me, I would have gone with the Fair and Flexible plan... As for as the free
vision, forget it. Reading the forums on sprintusers.com the only ones that
use to get free vision are the high dollar plans (above $100 plans) or the
multiple user plans with a good high dollar plan. Supposedly several posters
on the above mentioned web site are even saying that the free vision plans
are gone-no more, so if some has it done get ride of it cause the codes used
to get into the system don't exist anymore-again this what has been stated
on sprint users. Now I did get a $10 vision plan with picture mail and 100
text-(don't care dumbest thing I have ever seen-typing a msg. on a phone
pad) since I was a long term user.
