You're going to hear a whole lot about how we don't do "real" sms.
Regardless of whether that's true or not, you *can* send messages to GSM
phones. But only with USA phone numbers. Our messaging system, Shortmail,
only supports 10-digit numbers. I'm not even sure you can contact Canadian
numbers. We have an inter-carrier agreement with T-Mobile, AT&T, Nextel,
Cingular, and Verizon. I'm told messages get through to Alltel numbers, but
I know we don't have a signed agreement with them.

Apparently not. The five I've already mentioned are it. At least, those are
the ones with whom we have agreements.

Use e-mail.
Anybody, anywhere can send a message to your phone using
<number>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
In response, you can send a message to any e-mail address anywhere from
your phone using Java software like the SendNote application available
from my website (http://www.apgap.com). As long as the recipients
phone/pager/whatever has an e-mail address, you can send messages to
it.
