I'm considering switching from the the Samsung A400 to the Sanyo
8100, and I'm wondering what sort of signal reception improvement I can
expect? More specifically, I'm wondering whether or not the improvement
in reception noticeably improves signal strength in buildings. Thanks
for any help!

Re: A400 vs. 8100
I say samnsung is not a very durable brand. i've had 3 A460 models in 1
year...when they function they're fine. however i question their durability
w/normal use. Sprint's replaced my A460's but I've had to raise hell and went
2-3 days w/no phone each time.

I can't bash the durability of the 460. Mine went through the dryer by
accident. Very dinged up, but functionable still. May not have the
best reception and drop some calls, but very durable I will say.

I used the A400 all over the place. Bay area of California, Iowa, (Downtown
Minneapolis -- in buildings) Minnesota, North Shore of Lake Superior
(roaming). It worked everywhere and I never had the software updated on
that phone. I suspect that A460 software was a little more flaky. It was
Samsungs first phone with 3G voice, so that may explain it. Still, the
Sanyo 8100 is a much cooler phone, so ...

Went through the dryer? So, did it go through the washer? It must have
been wet, don't?

Nope it did not go through the washer. I had just shoveled snow and it
was in the sweat pants pocket. It was dry the jacket was over it, but
the bottoms of the pants were wet.

Re: A400 vs. 8100
I have has both an A400, A500 and now I have a 8100. The 8100 does get a
better signal than both of the samsungs I had. I have a friend that has
an A500 on my account and we were driving back from the Sand Dunes, and
my phone got a sprint signal 2 or 3 miles before his did. I even
browesed the web in that time. He even turned his phone on and off and
still didn't get the sprint signal. I was impressed. So Go for it!!!!
Also get the softwareupdate for the 8100. I did, and it was almost like
I upgraded to a different phone! It improoved the ringer volume, and
added an area code option that shows the state of the person that is
calling that isn't in your phone book. It made me even happier with the
phone
