Samsung N400 GPS

I have a Samsung N400 that has E911 capabilities in areas where provided.

Question: Is it possible to get GPS position at any location displayed on
the screen so you can tell a road service where you are?

New York doesn't have E911 capability yet.

Quick answer: no.

Long answer: they may provide that service in the future, but as it stands
now, there is no way for the user of the phone to get any understandable
co-ordinates off of the phone itself. My understanding is that this is due
to the fact that there is no GPS decoder in the phone. The phone just
receives the signals and passes them to the tower, where a computer figures
out where you are, and passes that data to the 911 call center. The future
plans I read about are in the form of an extra package to add to your plan
where Sprint processes your location and sends it back to you when you use a
program that wants it. Of course this would cost money, so i'm sure they'll
charge you plenty for it.

My brother has a Nextel phone and uses "TeleNav" which provides you the
same service as in-car GPS navigation system through your Nextel phone.
(see www.telenav.net)

It is really awesome (with voice directions and all) and only costs him
abouth $5 per month. I called a Sprint CSR to see if anything
comparable was available, but no such luck, yet. : - (

I'm sure it's just a matter of time though.

I thought the "GPS" function in Sprint PCS phones were a kind of hybrid of
real GPS and triangulation. Correct me if I'm wrong (?).
