Used or returned phones at sprint stores

Has anyone been able to buy from a sprint store a returned phone to
replace a lost handset?

The stores used to sell 'pre-owned' phones.



These were phones returned within 14 days for non-defective reasons
(they didn't want service, they didn't like the phone etc..).



They tested it, wiped it out, and sold it at a discount with a six month
warranty.



I haven't seen that since last summer, though.



Also, according to FCC regulations, manufacturers (manufacturers, not
the service providers) are allowed to sell a returned phone as "new" as
long as it was in 100% perfect condition (physical and working), was
wiped out, and had less than 15 minutes of usage. Some stores used to
complain when they'd get these in from the manufacturers.

You may rarely be able to find refurbished phones at the stores. I've
seen some as low as $10 (but those are very outdated)...

Well Phillipe, what if you weren't too bright, and got in your cessna,
flew say 300 miles, then discovered that you had left your 5300 in your
car at the airport---in a situation, like this,even the dumb, will
develop an a rudimentary imagination as to how to rig a temp fix--even
have one of my old 1g phones in the bag just for these mind lapses
-(sp-rint did do a no charge esn change-but again the old 1g's don't
seem to work as well in the fringe areas (there goes that imaginations
again) How stupid of me to imagine that a sprint store might have a
returned phone(for multiple reasons)

Now Phillipe what would your imagination come up with? Advise your
suggestions, since by your helpful remark,you possess a superior
intellect on matter such as this--buy hurry, I only have a week here on
the beach, maybe I could do a 3 day auction on ebay???

Thanks, I really knew it wouldn't happen, but I am going to call
anyway--what's the worst that could happen?

If someone dropped a phone in a bathtub or otherwise broke it, they
might not admit any defect upon return for fear of being charged.

Returns due to intermittant problems can easily avoid being detected
during a cursory retest.

The problem with all this is, a Sprint store has a financial incentive
to take defective units and pretend they weren't. Computer City used to
have a whole department devoted to shrink wrapping returns (defective or
otherwise) to return to the shelf as new. Two Long tables with Shrink
wrap machines at the end of the, they were very busy the weeks after
Christmas.

I for one am pleased to hear tSprint is not selling returned units.

I was simply asking for a helpful suggestion--I still haven't heard one

It occurred to me that I felt like I had met you before--couldn't place
you right away, then I remembered--I believe you were either the "very
(un) helpful sprint c/s guy, or the one at the sprint store who kept me
waiting for a half hour, then made me feel like the "idiot "I am for
being in the sprint store anyway" hey, dude, that was you wasn't it..
How you doin' buddy--thanks again for the same great old customer no
service---i'd know you anywhere.... kidding again

Your first comment about dropping it in water was answered afterwards,
do you think the phone would work after being dropped? It would have
raised a red flag if they exchanged it for the same one. As for int.
problems, then again, the customer would have most likely exchanged it
for the same model.

The Radio Shack here sells "used" phones. They had several 8100's (when
they first came out) for $49 for new activation, $149 for current
users. - sheureka

handset- did have old one,but -no replacement insurance--have plenty of
spares 300 miles away--thought sprint store might help(big stupid idea
here)-was listening to Rush Limbaugh on way to pawn shop, got rather
cryptic email from Philippe, jumped his case because his tone was
similar to the sprint store people--found a 4900 at pawn for $75--sprint
did esn change for n/c--forget the online activation thing(another
peeve--hadn't taken my Ritalin--feel better now---moral of story--if you
ain't too bright, carry a spare handset in your luggage and carry a good
one, you won't like old stuff when you had new. Maybe if you are bright
you will carry one..anyway beach is wonderful--all is well--goodnight
