After two transfers, sprint cust service let me out of my last 4 months of a
year contract without a early cancellation fee. I explained a number of
times how sprint cancelled my contract by raising my rate with the number
portability charge, and it worked. Now I am at t-mobile with a bluetooth
phone with IR and a camera. I am tickled.
Maybe the heads of Sprint will realize that you can't just fiat fees. I
hope they treat their employees better than their customers. I stop and
think that if they think they can push around their customers like that,
what they must be doing with their staff.
Cheers,
Richard

so let me get this straight so I understand. I could call and cancel my
sprint service which I just resigned a month ago because of the fee that
thye cannot actually charge? just trying to understand. So does the fee
mean they are offering number portability already or what?

They "can" charge it, but have to let you cancel because of it if you want.

They let me off because the contract I had with them did not have a fee.
They charged it after I signed the contract. They broke the contract I had
with them. It took a bit for them to understand that, but in the end, they
did. If you signed up a month ago, you may be stuck because the contact you
signed may have included the fee.

So...if I signed with Sprint in 2001, and I call them up right now, I can
cancel my contract because they are charing me a 1.10 more? If this was the
case why didn't people do this when they were charging the E911 fee?

The E911 fee is different. That *was* government-mandated. The WLNP fee is
optional. We're allowed to recover costs with an explicit mechanism like
the fee, but we're not ordered to do so. We were ordered to implement the
E911 fee. Since E911 fees were mandated, the cancellation clause wasn't and
isn't relevant to that.
