If there are any VGA1000 users out there.....I'm curious if
Sprint/Samsung has enabled the ability to access the address book from
    the "ShortMail" web-based interface?

Otherwise, how do you like the phone?

I'm still playing with it... just got it last Friday with a Costco
-$50 coupon, so I can't answer your fist question... yet!

    First impressions...
    PROS
Sound quality, both directions - A+
Earpiece and headset volume - A+
    Reception - A
    Voice Dial - A-
    Speedy Web Access - A
Camera - C (but it's the best rating I'd give any phone with a
    camera... they're ALL rather poor)

Regarding Voice Dial capabilities, if you have two+ entries you often
use for the same name, you'll have to make them distinguishably
different entries in the phone book. Otherwise Name Dial will dial the
    first number for the entry.

The A-620 feels heavy and a little large, but solid and well balanced
in the hand. It is NOT a tiny featherweight. Many will like this, many
    won't.

    CONS
-It quickly gets very warm--hot--as you use it. This really bothers me
and it's a primary reason I'd mark the overall rating down - D
-The center camera button on the control key pad really should be the
OK key. Poor design, IMO - C-
-The green back-lit keypad is just marginally OK; they should have
stuck with the brilliant blue backlight. It was gorgeous and very
    functional - C-
-No way to illuminate external display without opening the phone - F
(because it would have been so easy to do this)

Try it and you'll like it. Still trying to verify your question. As
for the last poster, the name dial works great. Go into the settings
and look for the options. Turn on the choice dial options and it will
prompt you if you have more than one number entered per name. I don't
know why this isn't defaulted on, but the same goes for the digit dial
and then it will give you options if it doesn't totally understand your
caommand. Also, the center button is the okay key for about 90 percent
of the functions on the phone. When selecting optionson the web or
inthe menus, the center key will also be used as the okay key. It
doesn't say this is the manual but most of the time it will work this
way, sometimes it isn't compatible, but about 90 percent or better of
the time it is. Hope this helps and makes the phone better. Just get
in there and play with the menus and you will find all sorts of fun and
interesting things, and if you have your msl the world is becoming open
to you. Good luck and enjoy the phone.

If you hold the outside volume button for 2-3 seconds, it will
illuminate the outside display. It is not instantanious like the
Sanyos as it has a slight delay. This is a "feature" to keep the
battery life up there from people accidently pushing the button in the
pocket or purse and the light coming on all of the time. This is
exactly the same way that the camera works. Also you can keep the
temperature down by using a handsfree set as this will not use extra
power for the displays, but hey what can you expect when the phone is
so small and has so many features, the heat has to be disapated
somehow. At least, I was able to get rid of most of your Cons, sorry I
couldn't help on the green keys (would have liked the blue better
myself also) and the heat, but it has to be disapated somewhere. This
goes to show that there aren't really many complaints about the phone,
surprised you didn't mention the background hiss or the beeping others
are describing (I only get the hiss which is supposed to be the
courtesy tone when dealing in an all digital environment to let one
know the line hasn't been dropped when dead air occurs).

Re: ? for Samsung VGA1000 Users

Many thanks for the information. I haven't gotten around to playing
with all the menus, and I haven't yet downloaded and printed the full
manual, so maybe I should just shut up until I do!!

I do like the phone overall and plan to keep it, since sound quality
and reception are always the clinchers for me.

One area of disagreement though... I've used many, many phones with
lots of features and significantly smaller than this, and they don't
get hot like this one. (I believe this was/is a problem with the
not-so-featureful and smaller A-460 too, but won't swear to it.) My
friend complains about his A-500 heatwise, too. Agreed, the hands-free
will solve the problem of "feeling" the heat if the phone is not on
your body, but the A-620 still gets hot.

Ah, the chartreusy green... I wonder why?

And, I've heard no background hiss on mine. The sound is superb.

Thanks again for the great information!

I like the green, but I concede that most people don't.

Lots of phones though, including the THREE that I've tried, have the
high-pitched background hiss. I like the phone so much though that
I'm still keeping it, at least for a while.

The camera isn't as good as the 5300, but still not bad for a phone.

Here's a great review of the A620 versus the 5300:

On My a500 I had the heat problem too. It's caused by the screen. You
can tell the phone to turn the backlight off after 15 seconds and don't
press any buttons while you're talking and that will solve the heat problem.
