Digit Dialing with Samsung A500 (Displaying Wrong Name when Dialing)

When using digit dialing it does not always display the correct name
associated with the number in my address book. It seems to display the name
associated with the first person I digit dialied. It always dials the
correct number, but has the wrong name.

I just purchased two A500s and they both exhibit that behavior as well as
the two I tested in the Sprint PCS store. However, using name dial it always
displays the correct name.

I also updated to WD29 today and the behavior remains.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?

I just tried it... The correct listing comes up, every time.

Just out of curiosity, why are you doing this?...

You're opening your phone, pressing talk, saying "digit dial,"
waiting for the prompt for a number, saying the number, and
waiting for a confirmation?

If you know the number, why not just open the phone and dial?

Interesting, especially since I tried it on every A500 phone at the Sprint
store and the first time it showed the correct number and matching name in
the address book, the other times (without a shutdown) showed the correct
number but the name of the first person I digit dialed.

Less destraction, for example, when driving and it is a *cool* feature.

I find it odd that you got the correct matching name from the address book
each time...the technician even reproduced the problem.

As it turns out, I didn't...

In trying to Digit Dial, repeatedly, I get the same thing
as you... Right number, wrong listing.

A bug, but a bug that has no effect unless you're looking
at the screen.

Thanks for checking again. You are correct that it is not a major bug. The
way I found it was looking at the outgoing call log and they the list showed
the same name for over 5 calls. Once you turn off and on your phone, the
list corrects itself. However, the digit dialing issue remains. If you are
interested, I will post a responce back once I get an answer from Samsung.

I just spoke with Jason at Level 2 support for Samsung. He duplicated the
issue while I was on the phone and indicated he was not aware of it before.
He took the information and informed me that it would be past on to Level 3
support. He mentioned that a phone's life cycle is about a year and since
the A500 has been out for a while, he was not sure how they would handle
it...maybe another firmware update...not sure.

I asked if they could get back with me when a decision was made and he said
that is usually not policy, but he verified my contact information and was
suppose to make that request.

Now *that* was a fast respone... Both Jason's *and* yours!

Because it is considered an old model, I'm not gonna hold
my breath, waiting for an update.

Fortunately, it's more of a "behind the scenes" bug, rather
than an "in your face" one.

You are not alone. There were some dialing problems on the A500 like
you mentioned in some older firmware. The problem also appeared when
you used the quickdial feature by holding down a number key. It would
display the correct name but dial someone else's number.

Samsung fixed it in version WD29 firmware - plus they seem to have
improved the battery life.

The local Sprint PCS store applied the WD29 firmware and it did not resolve
it on the digit dial portion. I contacted Samsung yesterday and they
confirmed it did not work. Have you tried digit dialing with the latest
firmware and checking for the name...from what the Sprint PCS store,
Samsung, and myself have gathered, it still remains an issue.

Samsung originally informed me it was fixed in version WD29. However,
after testing this at the local Sprint PCS store and talking with other
Samsung A500 users, we determined that (atleast on our phones) the
issue still remained.

As I mentioned earlier, I talked with a Level 2 tech at Samsung
yesterday and he confirmed it was an issue by testing it on his end.

Have you tested the digit dialing with your Samsung A500 since the
firmware update? If you have, pay attention to the name displayed after
the first digit dialing. From what others and myself can tell, it will
not work on any phone.
