    I am just wondering.

Seems like a job that I would not want to do.

Been there, done that, saw the BS and walked out the door.
Tele-marketing is bull on more than one level. The crap you are selling
is either none existent or misrepresented. Sold light bulbs once-
fantastic long lifers for sure. There was one hitch that you were not
to discuss with the folks you sold the bulbs to- when the bulbs went out
they tended to burst- and start fires. I lost that job for being
    honest.
The call hours suck. You work a split shift and still never get full
time. You badger folks first thing in the morning and then again in the
evening. This leaves no room for either the seller or the listener to
have a life of their own.
My apologies to anyone whose lives I disrupted.

Re: Has anyone ever worked as a telemarketer?

Well here's a question for all of ya'll..

How do would you feel if your celluar provider called you about 2-3
weeks into your service to welcome you to the service, and to make sure
everything is setup correctly? The reason I ask this is becuz that is
what I do, and we work the same hours as Telemarketers, 10am-9pm EST
Mon-Fri and 10am-7pm EST on saturdays.

Technically at this point we don't try to sell anything in the call, but
other areas of the same group do, like accessories, and feature
    additions.

What would be ya'lls feeling toward recieving the call?? And what would
your feelings be is amongst the primary purpose of the call, if they
tried to get you to buy an accessory or feature addition?? Remember the
primary purpose of the call is to welcome you, and to make sure
    everything is setup correctly.

To me that is not telemarketing. That is good customer service.

I'm sure I'd have positive feelings about such a call, Guy.
What's the normal response you tend to see?

I'm an OnStar subscriber, and they call me regularly,
but they are very polite as they go about their upselling efforts,
and I don't get annoyed by them either. Politeness counts.

It's the random cold calls from telemarketers that suck.

Well so far it's been ok.. A few angry people here and there, but most just
don't know what to think about it.. a lot of people seemed to be suspicious
like were not from Verizon and trying to get personal info.. it's all mixed.

I did it for three weeks. First project was telling novel customers that there
was a new release. Second project, where I quit on day 2, was for
R.J.Reynolds. Funny how 10% of their customer list was either dying of smoking
    related illnesses or already dead.

Probably what pops into some folks heads is that you are using up their
air time for this contact (in coming calls). Other than that I agree,
this is not the same thing as Tele-Marketing.
I do have a question. Do you guys call all your subscribers or just the
    new ones?

Annoying and pointless. Do they think I will not let the provider
know if my service is ****ed? At best it would be considered a minor
nuisance. Why not move these same people to the support line where
they could do some good? What an incredibly stupid waste of human
    resources.

But the point behind it, is to correct any issues BEFORE they happen..
Why have you call in all pissed off, when we can avoid that, and correct
the issue ahead of time.. A lot of problems can be fixed that way before
they are actually ever a real problem, ya know.. And IMO It would make
me feel good about the company that cares to look after my needs before
I even now I have them..
