I'd like to cover as much of the phone/PDA as possible, have a belt clip
and ideally be oriented horrizontally. A pocket for the earbud headset
would be nice but not if it significantly increases the size of the case.
Leather or decent fabric, doesn't matter to me.

Any suggestions? Should I just go with the case Handspring makes?

Its not horizontal but Samsonite makes a nice canvas and leather
rectangular case that zips open on three sides, and has a heavy sewn on
belt loop. I find all belt clips to be biodegradable.

I bought it when I had a Treo 300, and now use it for my Samsung I330.
I think it is designed for smaller PDAs, but has some small pockets
inside that an ear bud would fit. I keep it zipped up except for the top,
and can instantly yank out my fully protected PalmPhone when it rings.

I think I bought it at a Camera Store or a Target, don't remember as its
a year ago now, but it was $10 or $20.

I used their Slipper Seven case, then the i300 case, and both were very
    well built.
