You upgrading guys won't like this one.
Treo 600 for Sprint
$599.99 SRP
Rebates are $150 for 2-year and $100 for 1-year. So it will be $449.99
or 499.99 after service credits (or mail in rebates if purchasing thru
a retail store).

Not to be redundant, but are you saying that if I'm an existing Sprint
user (have been for 3-4 years, then I can get a rebate of $150 on this
phone if I extend my contract 2 years? And does this rebate prevent
me from calling and requesting a new phone credit (I'm assuming it
does?) And will this phone ever appear at Best Buy?

My read on this (after being shot down for asking questions about this) is
that you need to add a line of service to be eligible for the
discount/rebate. This additional line of service can be done through
add-a-phone which currently is $20/month for the line plus $7.50/month for
vision. I've also read here that there are new rate plans going into effect
soon that will lower the cost for vision on the additional line to $5/month.
Apparently, though, if you already own a Treo 180/270/300, Handspring will
give you a credit toward a Treo 600. This is rumored to be $100, though I
haven't found anything definitive about whether this can be combined with
the $100/$150 rebate from Sprint for 1 year/2 year service on a new line of
service.

If you're no longer on contract, you could very well get a credit,
depending on how "good" a customer you are.

And will this phone ever appear at Best Buy?
Entirely possible, although apparently not initially. That tells me
Sprint is not losing money or subsidising those phones, and wants to
keep the profits to itself for the inital rush of customers who want
that "toy"

The $100 & $150 are not valid on add-a-phones. That's not a new line of
service. That's adding a phone to share an existing line of service.

OK, I'll admit that I'm thoroughly confused and I can't find anything
definitive on the SprintPCS website.
Apparently you're indicating that an add-a-phone does NOT count as a new
line of service. I'm really confused because I've heard some places that
the discounts/rebates are available on phones as long as you get a new phone
number, which you'd get with an add-a-phone. But you're telling me that the
$100/$150 aren't available on add-a-phones.
I'm curious whether you're saying this because you've seen rebate coupons
for the Treo 600 that specifically exclude add-a-phones or whether this is a
general SprintPCS policy to exclude add-a-phones from this type of rebate or
whether it's up to resellers how this gets handled.
By the way, before you posted the $599 price, I asked the question here (I
hope the link works):
http://www.phonescoop.com/news_group...g=15&id=698249
and the answer I got was here:
http://www.phonescoop.com/news_group...g=15&id=698254 which tells
me that I should be able to get the discount at SprintPCS stores.

Re: Treo 600 - Latest from Sprint - 10/2
It's always been this way. We have people all the time buying 3-4
phones, doing add-a-phones, but Sprint will only give the rebate on the
primary phone.
Think about it, why would they give you $100-$150 back if you're only
adding $20/month or less to your plan?
The rebates require a new line of service with a new plan, not adding a
new phone to an existing plan.

I must have gotten luck because I recieved the rebate on both of my
8100's and one was an add-a-phone
So did other familty members (they bought 4 phones and recieved a 100
rebate on all of them with 3 being add-a-phones)

Well...if an add-a-phone costs $20/month plus $5/month for Vision ($25
total, or $300/year) but doesn't increase use of the network because it's
shared minutes, then why not subsidize $100 for 1 year or $150 for 2 years?

I think we're mixing retail/consumer, and business. When you purchase from=

retail, an Add-A-Phone counts as a new line of service. Larry gets his pho=

Check Sprint's webpage, they now offer $150 off on a Samsung i500, so no
telling what they'll do for a Treo 600.
