Despite "Letsgoflyers81" assuring us it would not be available
directly from Handspring, there it is today on their webpage.
And his guess of it requiring a mail in rebate is also wrong.
The same $150 off "with new plan" is available at most 3rd party
vendors which also show it for sale today, but its not listed yet on
the SprintPCS website.
Handspring offers 30 day return priviledge, as opposed to
the 14 days Sprint does, so that might be the preferred place to buy
it from if one has to have it.

The "discount" is provided as a service credit. You pay $599 for the phone,
then get a service credit on your Sprint service of $100 or $150.
I can't find a way of buying the phone from Handspring and getting the
service credit as an add-a-phone; the only thing I could find was to sign up
for a new plan.
Although Handspring has a 30-day return policy, Sprint only has 14 days for
service cancellation. So if you buy a Treo from Handspring and decide 20
days later that you don't like it, you are faced with $150 cancellation from
Sprint. (But you can still return the PDA to Handspring).
The Treo 600 seems to be a CDMA 800/1900 phone (no AMPS).

Thats only if you're a new customer. Suppose you're an existing Sprint
customer? Suppose you're a business customer (from UPS with big
discount) that never pays for ESN swaps?

I can't answer for the business customer situation. The Handspring offer is
clearly aimed toward retail customers.
If you're an existing Sprint customer (retail) there doesn't seem to be a
way to buy this from Handspring and do this as an add-a-phone, and if you
buy one from Handspring to swap with an existing device there doesn't seem
to be a discount available (full $599). Existing Sprint customers seem to
be better off buying one through Sprint where you might be able to negotiate
a discount.

Perhaps you haven't noticed. It doesn't say "new line of service
required". It says new plan, which for anyone without a retention
plan, the new plans are very similarly priced to old plans and for
some may even be an improvement. So again for exist Sprint customers,
buying from Handspring with its longer 30 day return policy is better.
At least until Costco gets any in, if one is a Costco member
(I hate that place).

Good catch - I hadn't picked that up.
I'd be surprised if Costco ends of carrying these - they're a bit pricy for
Costco Sprint phones. But unlike you I really like Costco. And my nearest
Costco is 150 miles away!

I got it as an add a phone, 150 discount at purchace. CC billed 449.00.
I ordered from tele-sales. The regular csr stumps, you might have
issues. This was done on Monday.

Re: Treo 600 now available
If you read the fine print about that $150 off for a new plan is does
say "NEW line of service" so you cannot simply change your plan and get
the discount. I also called them and they confirmed that you must
activate a new line.

Add-A-phone is considerd a new line of service, hence the 150 discount
(with 2 year agreement)

The Treo 600 is still not listed on Sprint's web site. On the
Handspring web site, it says $150 for "New Plan", which
doesn't even have to include Vision. That is a far easier
bar for most people to get over.
On the other hand the first review of a Treo 600 posted here
said of it:
"My unit has a defective microphone/speaker (tinny vibrations on all
sounds, including ringers)."

Re: Treo 600 now available
Yes your right about adding a second phone but what I was getting at is
that they make it seem like you can swap phones and change to a new
plan and you get the discount but thats not true. When they say "Sign
up for a new plan" what they really mean is "sign up for a new
number/line" check out the offers fine print at the bottom of this
page.

I love how I was singled out for that one, like I was the only one to
say that. I was simply reiterating what several news sources said.
But yeah, I was wrong. I just ordered one directly from Handspring for
$400 last night. I should have it in about a week.
