Sanyo 8100 vs Sanyo 5300 vs ????

I am looking to replace a 3 'antiques' SCH-3500's ....They have served us
well. ( After the initial shakeout/upgrade), but now are physically falling
apart ('the clam'). Almost 4 years has taken its toll!

I am seriously look at the 8100 partly for picture/vision, but also, because
of 'bang for the buck' on the phone you receive.

Also, I have received some good recommendations on the 8100....

But I do have some specific questions/areas for comment for USERS:

1) Anyone know how the 8100 works in the 'fringe' areas? (1-2 bars') .Signal
strength? Dropping calls? Failure to ring? As compared to other models?
What model would you suggest for 'fringe areas'?

2) Plusses / Minuses 5300/8100

3) I am hearing 'buggy', 'problems', and other negative words in
descriptions about A600

4) Last but not least what about the VGA1000? It's new, It's a relative
newcomer to PCS, and an newcomer to VISION...

Hey Joe ... I can only talk about your below question on the 5300. In
reference to the 5300 and it's camera, it's got a number of features
that the 8100 doesn't have, like doing 3 levels of resolution, high,
med & low, and the capability of zooming 4x on med & low setting & 16
x. on low settings. It also has a flash, but that flash is only good
for 4 ft. or closer. The 8100 doesn't have these features, but you can
add a voice message to the pictures, which the 5300 can't do.

As to fringe areas, I've found all models of the Sanyo line to do well
with calls.

Quick Rundown of phones... was by sprintpcs tech


which went over the various phones, but the info was for august.

I have a question about just how much the camera phones are used--I have
a 5300 which feels like it is three inches thick (er) than it needs to
be,probably for the camera stuff--and it is suppose to make the best
picture's--I would be embarrassed to show anyone these pics, compared to
a even a low end digital camera--I've gone back to the 4900 because it
has the speaker phone and battery life etc seems better, and it may be a
little better in the fringes--

There should be some new phones released fairly soon, with the PTT
thing.

But I am waiting for the new 5400 which is a clam style hop fully
thinner--from what I have read the old sanyo 5150 seems to be a highly
rated and liked phone, but it has no vision provision.

How did you get a 3500 to last this long--I went through 3 of them, the
speaker wires kept breaking---you will love any of the new phones with
the new 1g ( or whatever g stuff) they now have.

The first of these I got was a sanyo 4700 which I bought used off
ebay--because I wanted the speaker phone--the phone was scratched,
slightly dented, etc. The only thing this phone did well was work
better and in more fringe places than any other sprint phone I had ever
owned(Had a bunch of samsung's) I carry last years samsungs n200 and the
6100 in my luggage for emergency use--forgot my 4900 last summer, so put
the n200 into service--great little phone, great one touch dials, etc,
just didn't seem to work as well where the sanyo had worked the previous
week.

I would still be using the 4700 except it won't do vision, thus the
4900--wish it were a flip with a speaker.

Another thing that bugs me with sanyo's is that they only have 8 one
touch buttons, compared with 500 with the samsung's---but I guess I can
use the voice command, or dial it.

Only my personal experience, your mileage may vary

If you're willing to extend your contract the 5300 is available for $79
through R/S. Just ask them to call Sprint and get a validation code. At my
local R/S they knew about this and offered it up when I was looking at the
phones...
