    I bought an iPhone 4 on an online classifieds site and he assured me it was unlocked. I even unlocked it myself. I put in my Telus micro sim and I keep getting "no service".

    If your iPhone is unlocked so the problem is with your sim, have you checked the sim if it works in another mobile phone?
