My N6280 phone that I bought 2 months ago brand new, came out of the
shrinkwrap with it's original (last year's) software, v3.40, that
seemed to reset/switch off the phone at any given time. It finally
spent half a day at a Nokia Care Centre today, and is upgraded to
v3.81. I tried everything I knew would normally cause it to "fade to
black" (i.e known problems, like holding down the hash key to change
it from General to Silent profile) and it finally seems to operate
like it should. It hasn't crashed yet. For anyone who has this phone,
who has anything less than software version 3.81 (key in *#0000# to
    check), I'd recommend the upgrade...

Has anyone bought the new "colour" versions? (Purple and orange) Can
anyone confirm what software they have? I have a family member wanting
to buy one, and know they will have to take time off work (like I did)
to get to Nokia Care, if it's anything less than v3.81...

    Hi Tim,

I've got a Nokia 6280, and purchased about a month ago, brand new in shrink
wrap, unlocked! Software / Firmware installed is 3.60v and it has problems,
for example, while in a call, and key pad tones / menu tones are heard, the
call is routed via the loud speaker for a short period of time, very
annoying indeed. Also the T9 dictionary doesn't seem to remember stored
words! Have you got anymore details / requirements that I will need to
update the firmware to 3.81 ?

    Cheers for now,
    Jim

Just ask the dealer to check whilst you are buying it

Um, 3 dealers barely know how to insert a SIM.

But on the positive side they do have cutting edge hairstyles.

LOL! I'm a 3 customer, despite knowing their practices (e.g.
"customer care" who have English as their second language & hang up on
you if your question is too difficult) but according to Nokia, the
latest software is v 3.81. You can go within your warranty period to
the 3 store of purchase & get them to send it to Nokia (don't know the
turn-around time, but you will get a replacement phone that will
"occasionally" work as intended) or go directly to Nokia and they will
return it to you by end of day. The Nokia Care Centre worker I spoke
to was sick of seeing these phones, but particularly from 3 customers,
as if you phone 3, they will (INCORRECTLY) only tell you to go to
Nokia, not a 3 store. Funnily enough, the recent message/promo from 3
about their sixth birthday/millionth customer, well, once you choose
"options" on viewing the message and select "use detail" to go to
their link for the free Whitlams video etc., hangs/freezes my phone...

    Have fun!

    Tim
