Just got a Sanyo 7050 phone with GPS and am trying to soup it up. So far I have not been that successful loading java apps into it.

One app though that works freaking awesome though is Mobile Gmaps (release v1.39.15)

It downloads yahoo street and satellite maps and works great with the internal Qualcomm GPS chip. The only thing i cant do is save maps for use out of the cell network range, but the GPS location, speed, and direction still works. Google satellite images can be hacked into it.

Opera Mini 3.1 loads and works on it but i haven't been able to load the latest versions (4.x)

Mobile Gmail installs but the softkeys do not work and i can't get past the login screen.

I installed a tetris clone Fremtris

I have also so far been unable to download any pictures to use as screensavers other than the ones offered by bell for $2.50

So far mGmaps is the only killer app that i have gotten to work on the phone, any others out there.

Looks like you got a lot of apps working there ! I don't know of any other 3rd party stuff for the 7050 that you haven't tried yet though...

I have the same phone. I just installed gmaps, its a pretty cool app. I haven't tried mobile gmail, I just access gmail through the browser.

I was able to install opera mini 4.1 without any issues and it runs fine. I put a few screen savers through myxertones.com/make, you could put ringtones too but they all sound terrible on this phone so i'm done with those. I have sprint so I have the sprint navigation app installed and it works fine, as one would expect. Its functionally similar to gmaps but it seems like gmaps has more fun things to play with. Other than those I don't have any other apps installed.

I'm lookin' for some more entertaining (free) apps to install but so far I haven't come across anything.

I uploaded pictures using the online "Rumkin tool".

You can use it to both load apps and pictures.

Once you upload a picture to the site from your computer it will give you a code number, you then browse to the site with your default phone browser and enter the code. It will then be uploaded to your phone.

This works for apps, pictures, and even MIDI ringtones. It is run by a guy in the states that doesent think that you should have to pay to get your data onto your own phone.

You dont have to enter your phone# he is not a spammer, it works great.

If you have the phone, i would sugest "Mobile GMaps" so you can actually use the GPS features without having to pay for the service from your provider.

and "opera mini" as well. It is a much better browser than the one you get from bell/sprint. (who want to keep you in their little walled garden version of the internet).

Sorry but i dont have enough post here to insert links, but if you google what is inside each of the quotes above, the top return on the page for each search will take you where you need to get.

    Rock on.

I have another question, is there any other audio formats this phone accepts other than midi, I can get the midi fine, when I tried MP3 it said to download a plugin but I don't know what plugin that would be, but any other audio formats? because i wanted to put my bands song as a ringtone.

To the best of my knowledge the 7050 can not play .mp3 data at all. There are no multimedia capabilities on board. even if you could get it to play an mp3 with a java application you still wouldnt be able to use it as a ring tone as it only plays MIDI ring tones.

There is ."WAV to midi" software availible but it is generally awful.

Your best bet is to use some audio creation software (sonar, cakewalk, etc.) and make your own MIDI file using the built in MS wavetable synth. It is a "general midi" synth, the same as the chip in the phone. You can just make a 10 sec. clip using the instruments that are available in the MS wavetable and they will play back with the same sounds on the phone. It's a long workaround but is pretty much the only way that you can get a truely custom ringtone into the phone.

As usual if you google the quotes you will know what you need.

i did a little research and found you can convert any audio file to qct and upload it cause thats a ringtone file but the qualities horrible, thanks.

i have the midi thing figured out cause im a musician and often write songs in midi

Ah yes, i think i remember that, if you were able to find an app for converting to .qtc that is not in japanese would you be able to post a link? Or google instructions "____". Id really like to be able to get my phone to burp or fart when it rings.

    Whoo Hoo,

thanks for poking me in the side with your question. When i first got the phone the only converter i could find was either completely in japanese or a command line conversion tool that only converted 8-bit mono .wav. I see that googleing
"qct connect downloads" takes me right to the qualicom site where PureVoice converter 2.4.0 is delightfully in english, has a full GUI, and seems to take most types of audio files.

I am dumping the midi folder on the phone and spending a bit of time in Audacity. It seems that the trick is to shelf out the low/high end before converting to .qtc

    Rock on.

(Or burp as the case may be)

Re: Getting most out of Sanyo 7050 ?

ii found the best way to do it is get the best quality low space file so that when you conver to qct it actually has less converting to do and will make it sound a little less horrible.

    i have another question

i got some games and everytime i play them before it can make sounds and stuff an alert pops up saying "allow acces to multimwedia"? is there a way so this doesnt always come up becuase in the program options for all that stuff theres only "ask" and" never allow" not "always allow"

Re: Getting most out of Sanyo 7050 ?

Yep, I used Audacity to drop my samples down to mono 8-bit wav before converting.

There is, sort of. But its kind of dicey because you have to adjust the firmware in your phone to allow unsigned applications to have automatic access to some phone features. It's the phone companys way of trying to make sure you only use their pay-per-use apps.

Try googleing "Bitpim", i think it is possible, via the usb cable, but you run the risk of bricking your phone. Then you'd have to go back to your phone company to get the software reset. Balence the hassle of having press an extra button with the potential expense and brain numbing time on hold going through 3 levels of tech support at bell/sprint, only for them to possibly say 'sorry, unsupported, but we'd be happy to sell you another phone'.

I get the same thing when i use OperaMini, 'press button to access network'. Oh well.
