There are a couple ways you can increase your battery life on the Blackberry Storm:

    • One feature that takes up a significant amount of battery power is GPS. If you aren't using GPS, simply switch it over to E911 only: Options > Advanced Options > GPS Services > change to E911
    • Change network to 1xEv from Global: Options > Mobile Network > Network Technology > select 1xEV
    • Lower your backlight: Options > Keyboard/Screen > Backlight > Set to 10 or 20
    • Only use the ORM holster. It triggers the standby mode of the phone. Apparently there is no way to activate standby mode manually... yet

I've noticed that with the new version (.148) the battery lasts longer. This is because with the old version, even if the phone was locked, if the screen was tapped or touched, it would light up. Now, a hard button has to be pressed to have the same effect. Since I have the phone in my pocket all the time, the screen would constantly come on before, draining the battery.

Also, I don't know if anyone else has already said this or not, but any applications you use such as text, camera, facebook games, anything like that always close them out, this saves you're battery I didn't have to change all that other stuff and my battery life on my storm is great simply because I close out everything. It's a hassle at first I won't lie, but once you start doing it you'll get in the hang out it and you don't even notice you're doing it after awhile!

My storm battery would die really fast I thought it was just all storms but my battery was just weak. But I was able to buy a new one for only $10 pretty sweet. Now it works just fine and doesnt die halfway through the day.

Does anyone know how much battery drain is caused by the wifi? I have been keeping it off but have not noticed much difference.

Yes, most definetly close out programs when done. Other than that, just turn off all functions that you don't need to save your battery. Surfing the web will drain a lot of battery too.

My experience has been that WiFi is a huge draw on power. On mobile devices particularly, I always recommend that users turn off WiFi when not actively using it. In other words, turn it on, do what you need to do, and turn it off. Some mobile devices allow you to change signal receptivity/sensitivity, which can have a significant effect on power consumption. Increased receptivity == increased power drain. If you want push email, don't use WiFi; that's what data plans are for. Generally, push email will work even if your device is in a low power state--you should at least receive notifications of new mail.
