    Re: Metro Vs. Boost unlimited

i will always be a Boost Mobile Crusader.

Metro PCS can not hold a candle to Boost, especially here in Northern CA. ask anyone with Metro here in Northern CA and they will tell you that they hate it. dropped calls, bad reception, bad call quality, slow text messaging, etc... and please, dont even think about knocking iDEN. most of you never used iDEN before. i've had alot more success with iDEN than i did with Metro's service. and if you still want to complain, get a CDMA phone. Boost still supports CDMA phones, just get the Motorola w385 and you will be fine... so stop that nonsense!

and its quite of a paradox to talk about having better phones and saving an extra $60 a year in the same post. those "nice" phones that metro offers is anywhere upwards of $250, so talk about how many extra months of service you could get from those better/nice phones...and like someone before me said, what good is a touch screen/fancy phone that doesnt get reception? makes a good brick to break a window and grab someone's Boost phone... Ha...

but if you really wanted to spend some coin on a phone, you could always take a Blackberry Curve 8350i and flash it over to Boost and you still get all the features: unlimited talk, text, web, and walkie talkie. you got all the benefits of the plan with the all the features and frills of a smartphone/pda that can do a whole lot of stuff if you needed it to. it's a no brainer.

i dont know about you guys, but i'd happily pay the extra $5 a month. its pennies on the dollar compared to what you miss out on when you add up all the dropped calls, missed text messages, calls that never get through to you, or calls you make that never get through to them, etc... especially since i use it for business, a dropped call on a client, or speaking with an associate who misunderstands you because of bad call quality/recetion is PRICELESS compared to the $5 dollars a month. i will happily pay that extra $5 a month because what im getting is a better value. I CAN afford an extra $5 for great quality, but i CANT afford misunderstandings or drop calls with people important to me, especially in my line of business...

if that $5 is really a "deal breaker" for you, then you should NOT have a cell phone. hate to be brutally honest but its the truth. if you cant make that extra $5, then you have bigger fish to fry than having a cell phone. and remember, Price is only an issue in the absence of Value. and that extra $5 a month with Boost brings a whole lot more value than what youre paying for...

i've had metro for a very, very long time, and also had Boost (i needed two separate phone numbers for business and personal) and Boost and Metro are worlds apart. I cant even get reception or make a call with Metro in alot of places I am, but with Boost I can. Boost has way better call quality, better reception and reliability, and you get one more unlimited feature that you dont get with Metro: walkie talkie. not only that, because Boost is owned by Nextel, who is owned by Sprint, if you're a Boost user and you call someone who has Nextel or Sprint, they get free mobile to mobile minutes! the minutes are calculated as if you're on the same network! so not only are you saving money, but youre saving them some as well. can Metro do that? i think not... so who really has the better value in their plans now?

when you add ALL things up, Boost gets you more for your dollar.

    Period.

please read the entire post if you havent already, its worth every word.

the fact that Metro is going to have a 4G network is good news. They are/can upgrade to 3G is because of their connections to Verizon. Sprint Nextel has the same capability to upgrade to 4G just like Verizon because they share the same technology. Boost Mobile will inherit this.

But again, read my entire post.

    Re: Metro Vs. Boost unlimited

Will Boost Mobile ever just switch over to CDMA entirely and get rid of the IDEN network? Personally, I don't care because I currently have Boost on a i776 phone and it works fine for what I need. Sometimes it is a little slow, but I don't need it for much other than personal use. But I do know eventually people will start to look at IDEN vs. CDMA as a reason to go to one company or another. You seem to know alot about Boost....will they always be on IDEN or will they to CDMA 3G at some point?

I cant say; I wish i knew what would happen but I'm no fortune teller.

Since Sprint Nextel owns Boost, I would picture that Boost would inherit as much technology from them as possible.

The bigger question (in my opinion at least), is when newer technology (CDMA, etc) comes to an unlimited no contract carrier, will the price point remain the same? It's great if a no contract unlimited carrier has a great network, great phones, etc. but at what cost to the consumer? If the cost increases considerably might as well go with a big name carrier. the reason why im a Boost crusader is that their unlimited plan is a flat $50, no tax nor extra charges, and it gets me great reception (17,000 plus cities, woo-hoo!).

Also, it's interesting to see how many view iDEN as a bad thing or a "drawback" to the company. If you consider the cost of voice and data over a network, it would be in their interest to keep using iDEN since voice is of a higher expense than data. With that being the case, why spend all this money on completely switching over your network? iDEN works great for voice. large coverage, good call quality, and you get direct connect. the cost to completely switch over wouldn't make sense. why not just use dual networks? voice/direct connect on iDEN and data on CDMA? i think the blackberry 8350i was a great step in this direction (hail to those who discovered and shared how to flash it).

data does not take up much bandwidth compared to voice. to have data transfer over CDMA network of your parent company makes the most economical sense rather than just completely switching everything over. hopefully in the near future, more and more phones that Boost rolls out will be able to do this...

in the interim, i have to say i am really pleased with my i335 phone and the iDEN network. really, it all comes down to the area you and the call recipient live in when it comes to signal strength, and with Boost having thousands of cities more worth of coverage than Metro, it's a no brainer. For a flat $50 a month with unlimited talk, text, web; and with no obligation, no taxes, and no fees, what more can you ask for? Boost all the way. Metro is a respectable runner up...

All good points. I don't profess to be a IDEN vs CDMA expert by any stretch. In fact, until I went with Boost, I had never really heard the argument for or against either of them.

    I appreciate your input!

I am hardcore Boost Mobile crusader, but I just saw this ad on Metro's site: metropcs.com/plans/default.aspx (copy and paste into your browswer, i cant post links since i dont have enough posts on my account in this forum)

you can get a basic unlimited local calling and text plan for only $30/month. hurry, its only for a limited time though. If you already have a phone compatible with MetroPCS, this would be a great deal.

However, be aware that the $30/month price is only for a limited time and can shoot right back up again. I wouldn't recommend you buying a brand new phone from Metro just for this plan because if the monthly cost goes up (which more than likely will happen), you'll be stuck with a phone that you'd be forced to use with them, which means you'll "have" to get their more expensive plan...

think of this $30/month price like those teaser rate mortgages that banks/lenders put out in the early 2000's when everyone and their mom was refinancing their mortgage for those "ultra-low rate and payments" that ended up being ARMs... ouch...

but if you already have a metro compatible phone, might as well take advantage of the deal. just dont say you werent warned...

Sorry your incorrect again..Sprint claims their at 4G, but their actually with Wimax 4G which is um? a Reciprocal 4G. in other words its a copycat / fake / not good. Boost is still with iDEN but will never fully turn to CDMA. lol its like saying T-Mobile is going towards Verizons CDMA network..=.NOT possible.

With this said, Boost mobile will stay at their low 1G/2G speeds. UNLESS they merge with a iDEN company. Which is NO MERGER at all since iDEN is a low-class standards these days & thier is NO comany with that past tech iDEN network unless you go to a 3rd world country with no water..

Boost is the short low end term way to go, but Metro PCS is a long smart term way to go.

    THINK LONG TERM PLEASE!

    Hope this Helps. X)

Your right Metro PCS maybe a runner up in your eyes but i know their at EQUAL levels. ONCE 2010 Hits With Metro PCS 4G Netword (CDMA / LTE Network) Then the table will turn 360 degress. Metro PCS will take over Boost.. You have too agree.. "4G"

Stick with the carriers who will offer 4G network.= Metro PCS / Verizon Wireless X)

P.S Metro PCS will stick with their GREAT Value because unlike Sprint. Sprint bought a bankrupt company "Nextel" & now is using the left over network, Which is creating a HUGE debt on Sprint / Boost.. Can someone say Bankruptcy??

You said..........."Sprint Nextel has the same capability to upgrade to 4G just like Verizon because they share the same technology."...... Boost Mobile will inherit this." Because of this, it makes people think if Sprint goes to 4G then automatically Boost will inherit 4G.NOT TRUE. Remember they run more than not on iDEN. & Nextel is never going 4G.. Thier bleeding clients to much.

POINT is Boost mobile will NOT go to 4G just because Sprint is.

Your really funny.. Metro PCS is offering the M30 plan which includes text/nationwide calling international text / local + more.. But the limited time means ONLY that who ever takes advantage of this new plan gets to keep it FOR EVER! it wont go up after it is over..

There is a new family plan for 4 lines for $100.. & after the promotion is over..it WONT go
up.. who ever gets it..will again KEEP IT FOR EVER!! it includes text/web/pix/nationwide calling. X) $25 bucks per line! Almost half of boost $50 plan!

How do you like them apples? READ FINE PRINT! "Clients will stay with promo plan for the time the account is active" Which means FOR EVER if they have their account FOR EVER!

    Re: Metro Vs. Boost unlimited

i'm aware of the $30/month plan... i posted a thread about it in the Metro forums on HowardForums...

clients staying with a promo plan as long as the account is active... so that means if Metro decided to close the account, you technically would have to get the more expensive plan, right? reading fine print is a good start, but he who rights the policy gets to interpret it...

those who think they'll keep the $30/month are probably the same people who bought ARMs back in 04' 05' and 06'. instead of being stuck with an adjusted $5,000 monthly payment on a $400,000 loan you cant re-fi out of, you're stuck with a $300 phone with a monthly payment bumped up to $45 that you have to pay...

Family plan? so now not only one, but 4 family members can get crappy reception! okay, joking aside, its a great step in the right direction. but what good is it if the reception sucks?

    False information again..X(

Ok, this is the true side: Metro PCS CANNOT terminate a service & then put them onto a more expensive plan, You keep putting the house market & cell phone companies together? There completly different! ONLY a client can disconnect thier own line. Metro PCS cannot unless they comit fraud or are terrorist lol. i mean ANY company will terminiate in those situations.

in other words: You KEEP the $30/line promo with Text/international/ Nation-wide calling + more FOR EVER as long as YOU LIVE! i know this because i have a promo plan that includes text/pix/web/nation-wide unlimited for $44 a month. its called U40 promo plan. i had for more or less for YEARS! This proves its FOR EVER!! NEW plan is called V40

+ the Metro PCS family plan 4 lines for $100 = $25/per line: is GREAT! i might go to this family plan myself! it has text/web/pix/long distance unlimited! & i have great signal in New York / Miami.Florida / L.A / Las Vegas / San Francisco / & in country town states that i love like Texas. Thier is WAY MORE cities & states but since i travel to Metropolitan areas i know this 1st Hand! GREAT Value/Phones/Signal!

Remember with the 4G network coming for Metro PCS or Metro LTE.. There Going to be one of the BIG 5! which includes AT&T / T-mobile / V/Z ECT.

    Hope this helps X)

they cant terminate an account. what i was getting at was that if they stop offering $30/month promo, then technically your "account" wont be active, and therefore customers would have to get the more expensive plans.

and did you just say you get great signal with metro in San Francisco?

    uh, er..
