Re: Whats your Car and Milage?
'99 Chevy Malibu--54000. And the air conditioning, contrary to popular belief, blows ICE COLD.
Btw, if anybody has or know anybody who has a problem with the a/c working, but intermittently, the problem is most likely dirty contact points on the circuitry board behind the climate controls. One shop wanted to replace the entire a/c system for $1500. I googled the problem and discovered the fix online. Months later I had a problem with my ignition switch that caused my windows and climate control to get no power. Upon a referral from an employee at Advanced Auto Parts, I then found a really good, honest mechanic. When the mechanic took the dash apart to get to the ignition switch, I told him I wanted him to clean the contacts for the a/c since he had the dash apart. Funny thing is...instead of replacing the ignition switch, he tried cleaning the contact points on it that were dirty, and viola-- power restored. One and 1/4 hrs spent diagnosing/troubleshooting, and labor. No parts...$75 (Also at the same time, my check engine light came on and stayed lit...hence my trip to AAP who run diagnostics and print the codes for the customer for free to take to mechanic. My mechanic disconnected and reconnected the battery, before doing so asked me if the car was running rough or if my gas mileage was off. No, I said. Told me that if the light came back on and stayed lit, then we would check to see if the oxygen sensors were bad. The light stayed off. Gotta love an smart, honest mechanic).
Everything works like brand new, I am a happy patron and have sent mucho business his way.
