Would it be that difficult for you to take your old phone that you won't use any more and place it into the postage paid, already addressed envelope and drop it in the mail. Not difficult instructions...for most people. LOL Its really not out fault that you decided to drop your $300 ,or whatever you paid for it, phone in the toilet, or whatever happened to it, but we are there to send you a replacement phone for $50 plus a new battery and a new home charger. That's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Build a bridge buddy, and get over it. If you don't like the insurance, don't have it. But have fun paying full price for your next phone next time your dog chews it up, plus the cost of the battery.
First, I'd like to point out how extremely unprofessional you are by actually (and possibly unknowingly) identifying yourself as an employee of the company in question. I'm sure they would appreciate your mannerisms in this forum when associated with their company.

Secondly, it's a pain to even get a hold of a customer service rep if you don't have a second phone number. I had to trick the automated system in order to talk to a person, and it took 5 mins of automation before I was even told it was an issue. I will say that the rep I spoke to after tricking the automation was pleasant and apologized for the inconvenience.

Thirdly, despite being pleased with receiving my phone the next day, the first replacement I received was damaged. The keys were difficult to press and the space bar clicked. The battery also wasn't the same as the blackberry battery, which made the back difficult to get on. Hopefully the new one will be better. I opted for the newer model in hopes that I wouldn't get a reconditioned phone, which is what the first one seemed to be. I saw someone mention receiving a home charger with the replacement phone, but I did not. Perhaps it is because I originally received the same model, so maybe they will send me a charger with the newer one. The only irritation I had with the customer service rep is when he offered sending the newer model, and then tried convincing me to still take the same model I already had (of which I had already received a defect).

Fourthly, I'm guessing that many responses to this forum were for a more basic phone. I have the Blackberry Curve 8330, which meant my deductible was $100, which is pretty frustrating considering mine was damaged due to a freak car accident. It would be nice if they waived the deductible for issues that weren't due to neglect. As a college kid, $100 is a week's worth of income for me, which was a bit frustrating.

In general, I had a good experience with their customer service reps, but the set-up of the automated line can be frustrating and time consuming. They were also helpful in taking care of the problem. I just wish that I didn't receive a defective device or had to pay quite as much to fix the issue.

I was wondering if anybody has had issues with the damage phone reaching them. Despite it being rare for the postal service to lose a package, I'm worried about being charged if for some reason they do. Would purchasing tracking be beneficial?

I am one of the dumb ones who bought the verizon insurance and received a refurbished Blackberry Curve 8330. I have complained to Verizon and Asurion to no avail. Does anyone know any way around It, without upgrading and re- up ing for 2 more years?

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

I happen to own a cell phone repair center. In our experience deductibles paid to insurance companies usually equal or exceed the cost of repairing our customers' phones. Not only that but refurbished phones are such because they had some sort of problem in the past. Therefore you often inherit a whole new set of problems. On average something like a liquid damage recovery costs between $35 and $85 the majority falling in the low end of that range. When it comes to our more expensive repairs these tend to be in the $100 to $150 range and typically include broken LCDs on very new late model phones like the Blackberry Bold 2, Mytouch, iphone 3Gs etc.

If I can be of help to anyone here please PM or email me as I have not achieved link posting status yet.

    Thanks.

    Mike

What sort of problems are you experiencing? The Curve is actually a decent phone. I'm assuming the fact that is a refurb is causing you grief.

I dropped my phone in a puddle and it rings but the keypad does not work. When I received the refurbished piece of garbage from Asurion, it clicks and whistles when i use it. They won't replace it as long as it works.

When you report a device as stolen, they do not require you to mail it back. Please note: the device you reported stolen is then blacklisted and cannot be activated on any wireless provider. So it is nearly impossible to use this and commit insurance fraud.

ASURION IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF. They sent me a refurfished phone for which I paid 100 dollars for, from day one I had problems with it, I called twice and as I was calling today the volume button fell of my htc touch. They said the button falling off voided my claim. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY ANOTHER 100 DOLLARS. so basically I should have lied and said the only problem was the touch screen. I HAVE SIX LINES WITH SPRINT AND AM CANCELLING THEM ALL THANKS TO ASURION. DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM AT ALL YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!

OMG!! I love Assurion. My teen boys have lost or broken their phones 6 times, within 24 hrs each time, they had new phones. My deductible is $25.00. I sent an email thanking Assurion for the great service and the CEO emailed me back and called me on my phone to personally thank me for my email and assuring me that I would continue to get great service in the future. I have T-Mobile, don't know if that makes a difference. I think they're great!!!

I can not agree more on this ****ty service I recently had a horrible run in with assurion they are horrible and let me update you on the price first then I will get into the crap service and the nightmare that I recently had. The price on this crap service was a deductable of 130 buck i was not happy about that but i have to have a phone i am a business owner. The price was crazy but what happened is I misplaced my phone the same day that I went out of town I didnt know if it was stolen or what so a couple days later I called T-Mobile and had my service suspended. i called asurion and told them what had happened and then they denied my claim for a week and I asked for a manager and nothing happened they denied my second claim so I had to buy a new phone from T-Mobile they were amazing said that they are having alot of problems with this crappy insurance and they gave me a new phone at a discount price and broke it in to four payment. I also dropped the insurance I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone worst service i have ever had I would rather b subjected to a weekend with my inlaws than do anymore business with this horrible company ASSurion

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

When my daughter lost her phone we called, gave our 50 dollars and her new phone arrived the next day..Easy! I lose my phone, call and get a very rude person that informs me that I will need to fill out and fax paper work describing how my phone got lost and all the information on the back of battery, (ok, I lost the phone, I don't have the battery.) They said if I faxed the paper work and a photo copy of I.D. they would send a new phone. It took 2 trips to Verizon to get all the info they needed to complete the form. They said it would take at least 3 hours to check out the information, but if they couldn't see clearly my I.D. I would have to start over. I faxed all the info. I checked on line to see how far I was in the process...it said I canceled my request for a new phone!! I had to start all over again, don't know how that mix-up happened. It has been 5 days, still waiting for my phone. It was really a pain this time and the price INCREASED to 80 dollars. I guess it is still better than buying a new phone...but Best Buy has simple flip phones for 60 dollars that you can use until your contract allows you to repurchase. Not sure if I will keep my insurance.

So, nicknrm, what if I have tried the avenues and Asurion wants $130 for the deductible instead of $50? We bought it under the information from T-Mobile that it was $50. I have a BlackBerry Curve 8900 which is discontinued. We get new phones upon renewing contracts in 5 months, and they STILL want $130 for one phone even though we've paid them over $200 in premiums for three phones.

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

Their website is very deceiving. I'm not mad about how much I pay - I knew what I was getting into - and I also knew how expensive it would be if something happened to my new Droid right away. What I'm soooo irritated about is that when you go to the Asurion website - they tout how FAST and EASY it is to file a claim online. What they don't tell you - and what the last rep I spoke to FINALLY admitted to - is that every customer has to fill out and fax or mail in an affidavit before the claim will be processed. The company then has 3 hours to contact you to process the claim IF you file between 8am and 6pm Central Time. If all of this gets done then they "might" ship it out that day or the next business day.

Now, explain to me how "Asurion's new online claims service can do much more..." "File your claim online!" "Usually claims take less than 10 minutes!".

That is so FALSE advertising! What it looks like to me is that their "new online claim" processing is a way to delay processing of claims. Don't spit in the wind and tell me it's raining. Hmmm, think this is the first rant I've ever posted and think I'll copy and paste this to the BBB.

    The end.

    1) Cost of Asurion insurance.....$5.00 a month.

    2) If you make a claim they make you pay $50.00

    3) Once you do a claim and you get a new phone you must send back your old phone (with the battery) within 15 days or they can charge you up to $300.00.

    4) The customer service sucks.

Now let me explain this better for you.....lets say your cell phone craps out 14 months into your plan...14 months x $5.00 a month equals...$70.00. Now $70.00 plus the $50.00 fee they charge you equals $120.00. Thats almost as much as a new phone already. But wait.....

Dont forget you gotta send your old broken phone back in with the battery...It does not take a moron to realized that they referbish the old phones and put new cheap plastic housings on the phones and resell em. Probably the batteries too. How much do ya think the old cell phone is worth to the refurbish company....? $15, $25?, $40? While they resell it for probably at least $90 to $175. Which you originally paid $150.00 for.

Oh and dont forget to send in that old phone, if you dont, thats an extra $300.00

And lastly, the customer service sucks.....Oh the reps you talk to are very nice dont get me wrong, but I was disconnected once, put on hold several times....Told the wrong information.....(Guy told me that the $50.00 went towards extra months on your Asurion insurance plan, next person I talked to said that was not true and it was just a service fee)

So all and all you end up paying about $150.00 for your new phone, while they turn around fix the old one and resell your phone as a new or refurbished one (I am only guessing about this but is probably the case).....If your phone does not break for longer....You end up paying even more. Worst case senario you forget to send in your broken phone and could end up paying like $450.00.

The only good things about this service is that you pay no shipping costs, Or did I? and I got a new phone by the next day.

I thought insurance was suppost to help your wallet, not not burn a hole in it. Its an Assurance, that youll be getting scammed with Asurion insurance.

I totally agree Asurion is a ripoff.

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

I just delt with these complete idiots last night. VERY disappointed.... thought these people are SUPPOSED to be helping out with issues, when they really only make them worse. Let me start off by saying, they need to change their name to ASSurion. I have the Palm Pixi (which I do NOT recommend to anyone, EVER, battery life sucks & it freeze's ALL the time) and had dropped it the other day, cracking the screen.... Well since the phone is touch screen, it obviously didnt work after that.... WELL, i call the insurance place, file a claim BLAH BLAH BLAH, I receive the phone the next day, which was good, BUT THEY SEND ME A PHONE STILL ACTIVATED UNDER SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME, WTF. So I have to call them, AGAIN, and let them know what DUMB ass move they just pulled. The lady put me on hold about 10 times trying to get in contact with tech support, for what reason I have NO idea, its under someone else's name, it cant be UNactivated off that person's name without getting a new phone, idiots. Well now I have to wait another day to get a new phone, and if I have problems this time, I will go to the BBB. I dont pay freaking $20 a month to get some run around bull sh**. I pay to get a replacement phone, whether I dropped it or not, yeah it was an accident, but damnit, do your job right. They piss me off. OK I'm done complaing

I agree....but I'm not done complaining. Instead, I'd love have the CEO's job. Someone needs to do it right ! Assurion is NOT an option for cell phone insurance coverage....the service is terriable, employees are not trained and leaders do not lead - nor care !
