Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

You might want to read all the little fine print on both the Sprint PCS contract and the Asurion contract.

Here's just a small piece of what they both say (this is just a general statement copied from Asurion. Sprint PCS WILL have the same or similar policy):

All disputes will be handled through the company in which your paying service to. You agree to hereby bring all disputes to our attention and handle them in our departments. You must provide a 80 day notice if you wish to take a dispute outside of our company or the affiliates there of. Your written request must be approved prior to your action.
That being said, it will be VERY difficult to successfully take them to Court.

Also, in response to your change of address...the post office is not very good at this. I moved a year ago and still only get about half of my mail. It's not a reliable system and it is YOUR responsibility that this information gets to you, not theirs. They DID NOT tell you to move.

Added: I would also like to point out that you're not the only one effected. I just spoke with my wireless carrier...it is an across the board rate increase. I'm effected as well.

    1) Cost of Asurion insurance.....$5.00 a month.

    2) If you make a claim they make you pay $50.00

    3) Once you do a claim and you get a new phone you must send back your old phone (with the battery) within 15 days or they can charge you up to $300.00.

    4) The customer service sucks.

Now let me explain this better for you.....lets say your cell phone craps out 14 months into your plan...14 months x $5.00 a month equals...$70.00. Now $70.00 plus the $50.00 fee they charge you equals $120.00. Thats almost as much as a new phone already. But wait.....

Dont forget you gotta send your old broken phone back in with the battery...It does not take a moron to realized that they referbish the old phones and put new cheap plastic housings on the phones and resell em. Probably the batteries too. How much do ya think the old cell phone is worth to the refurbish company....? $15, $25?, $40? While they resell it for probably at least $90 to $175. Which you originally paid $150.00 for.

Oh and dont forget to send in that old phone, if you dont, thats an extra $300.00

And lastly, the customer service sucks.....Oh the reps you talk to are very nice dont get me wrong, but I was disconnected once, put on hold several times....Told the wrong information.....(Guy told me that the $50.00 went towards extra months on your Asurion insurance plan, next person I talked to said that was not true and it was just a service fee)

So all and all you end up paying about $150.00 for your new phone, while they turn around fix the old one and resell your phone as a new or refurbished one (I am only guessing about this but is probably the case).....If your phone does not break for longer....You end up paying even more. Worst case senario you forget to send in your broken phone and could end up paying like $450.00.

The only good things about this service is that you pay no shipping costs, Or did I? and I got a new phone by the next day.

I thought insurance was suppost to help your wallet, not not burn a hole in it. Its an Assurance, that youll be getting scammed with Asurion insurance.

I don't think you really know what you're talking about. I've had to deal with Asurion once before and their service was great. Do you know how insurance works? Why are you complaining about a measly extra $5 on your bill when a huge chunk of your paycheck is removed for health, dental etc. No service is without a fee and I would definitely rather pay the $50 premium than re-buy my $300 phone. As far as your misleading comments about switching the face plate and selling refurbished phones, you are completely wrong. My LG came in brand new packaging with the shrink wrap still on it. It was actually a tad bit nicer than the one that had gotten broken since they had upgraded the model and dropped the price a bit. They try to make sure they get as close to the same one as possible.
Also, this company covers for WATER DAMAGE! That to me is amazing because so many insurance plans are void the minute liquid is mentioned.

Next time check your source. Sorry you had a bad experience but don't go trashing a company that does a lot of good to save you money on a new phone because you're a miser about $5 a month.

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

Asurion sucks. Don't insure with them It is a ripoff. I lost my Blackberry and after paying my $50.00 deductible, I had a replacement the next day. However it couldn't be activated because it was under a fraud investigation. After several days, I received yet another replacement phone which also couldn't be activated because it was tied to a fraud investigation. Thankfully my local Verizon store is working to help resolve this whole mess. It is now three weeks, they have my $50.00 and I am still without a phone. Their representatives don't know squat and you have to go to a supervisor to find someone half way intelligent and they are still no help. And the last one I talked to blamed me for their own incompetence and hung up on me.. The best insurance is to be careful with your phone. I will never spend another dime with Asurion.

If you didnt have this service u wouldnt have 2 pay full retail price,
thers another way 2 do it

    1. Cancel ur line ($100-$150)
    2. Add a line ($10)
    3. Buy ur new phone at 2 year contract price (free-$200)

This is cheaper then buying the phone at full retail price but the cost is still pretty high ($210-$360) But its cheaper then paying up to $700 for a new phone.

I broke my voyager a week ago and I was about to file a claim but now im not sure if the service is good or not. Is it possible to get a versa if i file a claim (I want tht fone)

The method you mentioned may be successful; however, the customer would then lose their current mobile number and possibly some other features.

You must get the same phone. If they do not have the Voyager in stock, you are required to accept a device of equal or lesser value of their choice.

You may find a sad present in the box when you open it.

Asurion does not have the enV Touch or the enV3 in stock either...due to their new status.

I personally like Asurion. I only contact them through Sprint, but so far they've come through very well. I just recently broke my phone and they gave me a free upgrade. Sorry about you other guys though...

    Pissed Off!!!
Their website claims that you can have your phone the next day. BULL!! That is only for a selected few. I have been going back and forth with them since the 24th of July. Still do not have my blackberry! The ask for an affadavit and my drivers and said it could take up tp 5 days. When I asked why it would take so long I was told that it was a random selection process. OK I sent the crap over but my drivers will not come across clearly. So I am basically S.O.L because there is no other process for this. I am sooooo pissed off: I have enlarges and lightened it and the friggin will not come across clearly.

The BBB was a complete waste of time ! Given the amount of complants I have seen here I do not know hoe the BBB gives Asurion a good review ???

The BBB said they would keep my complaint on file.....whoopeeee...

Looks like the BBB represents business and not consumers...

Asurion cuts the wrong corners: Their product is terrible

In mid august i lost my blackberry phone and called the insurance serivce asurion to get a replacement phone. I emphasized how important it was that the phone be sent overnight with no signature required for delivery because i had to pick up the phone after hours. When i went to pick up the phone i found a tag from UPS saying they tried to deliver the phone but i wasn't there so they'd be back the next day. i needed it that night for work. That was the first screw up.

Then, after using the replacement blackberry for a day, the tracking ball stopped working. That was the second screw up. I called and made arrangements to replace the replacement phone. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the previous delivery arrangments and with the fact that the replacement phone was not functional and i requested that the $50 replacement phone fee be credited to me for my inconvenience.

Not only was my request denied but I then had to give my credit card number before they would agree to send a me a replacement for the replacement phone in case i didnt send back their non-fucntioning replacement phone they sent me. I reluctantly gave them my credit card #.

A new phone was sent. I sent back the old phone.

Now, after a week of using my second blackberry replacement with no dropping or liquid damage to the phone, this second replacement phone is now not functioning properly: the return key doesn't work, there is no way to adjust the ringer, and the end call button is working intermittently.

I just called Asurion to get a replacement for the replacement and the customer service person was a human hiding behind a script that she was trained to read which made her into a frustrating-to-speak-to robot. For instance when i asked her if these replacement phones are old broken phones that Asurion refurbishes, she replied - "you could see it that way, but Asurion has a 68 point evaluation for each phone"... which i pointed out has been insufficient twice in a row and she replied in a monotone voice: "i can understand that would be frustrating for you..."

Her non-human robotic reply was, at that moment, more frustrating to me than the fact that their 68 point review failed, again.

And when i asked her to take down the number i was calling from in case we got disconnected she said it was an in-call facility only and she couldn't call out. i expressed my dissatisfaction with that and she incomprehensibly assured me that if i called back the Asurion representative would still have to go through all the steps with me to identify the problem. That was not the point i was making but it was clearly the only thing on her script that she saw fit to regurgitate. (God forbid she went off script and spoke to me like a real person).

BOTTOM LINE: I dont know if Verizon offers an alternative insurance plan but if they do i strongly advise that it be considered instead of asurion.

DEAR ASURION: your free overnight shipping is great. just make sure that the phones you send actually work and will continue working for more than a week.
ASURION! DONT SEND PEOPLE PHONES THAT DONT WORK!! And train your representatives to speak like real people or get better writers for your scripts!

DBG, I'm sorry to hear your frustration.

Once again, I have nothing bad to say about Asurion. They were great with us...again as we just replaced a phone that went through the lawn mower 6 days ago.

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!

Personally, i wouldn't get the insurance unless you have a very nice phone. When i got my phone i got the free phone. Then I ended up breaking it and went to the verizon store to get a new one. I picked up the same phone for 10 dolalrs, Then recently that phone broke. Now i have to pay $50 for a phone that cost me 10, because i dont want to pay upwards of 160 for a new phone. If you have a nice phone its worth the investment, if not... just buy a new phone
