This review isn't going to be very technical, im just an average guy with an average background in cell phones (a new one every two years). In the past ive gone with nothing fancy, but this time decided to spend some cash to get something nice. I believe i made the right choice.
Feel: Initially you'll love it. The stainless steel sets this phone apart instantly, and at night time the exterior LCD catches eyes across the street. The membrane-style buttons are superior to others like the RAZR due to their hybrid feel of flat yet you actually do push down a little. It's hard to explain, but basically its not completely flat so you know when you're dialing.
Use: The phone doesn't open flat like a RAZR, but i like that because i can rest it on my shoulder and it hooks nicely on my ear. If it is a long conversation however, my ear does tend to get irritated rather fast, so I got a headset for free and use that. The charger input is on the side of the phone, with a cover for the outlet that feels flimsy and in the way while you're charging, but that's not a major issue. If you're like me and like to charge your phone while you talk on it, that may be an issue, because the phone's slimness and metal shell combined make it very very hot to the touch, so I keep myself doing one or the other.
Battery: Disable EVDO. with VERY low use of the phone I was getting fewer than 24 hours out of it, because the VCAST signal just drains the battery. This is the nightmare you've probably already heard about if you've read reviews. Disabling it will give you a normal battery life, for me that is about 2-3 days (probably 60-70 texts per day total, and 30 minutes of talk time). I opted for the extended battery however. Let me say it is more of a convenience than a necessity, so don't worry about that (you can find them for $40 on ebay). The extended battery has almost double battery life, and the cover for it is plastic - not the steel case like the standard battery comes in. However, this is kind of a mixed blessing, because now the phone isnt as hot if i want to talk and charge simultaneously. In addition the slight bulge with the extended battery fits my hand better.
Nitpicks: The outside LCD comes out of the phone past the rest of the front, which makes me nervous that it will chip or something. You will need a covered carrying case for this phone, not a clip due to its semi-easy susceptibility to scratches. It also doesn't come with a SD card, which is almost necessary (don't get one over 2GB, waste of money it doesn't read more than 2), so I'm kind of bummed that i had to spend 25 bucks on that, then an additional 40 for the extra battery, but I guess those aren't COMPLETELY necessary.
Summary: After having this phone for a couple weeks, I could not be happier. In the store i tried a call with this and the 9900 (EnV) and the call quality was VERY much clearer with the 8700 - I know this is getting weird these days, but my first priority when getting a phone is that the PHONE portion works BEST, then come all the goodies. The signal strength is great - with an internal antenna to boot. I haven't done anything with email or mobile web on the phone. Once you get used to the layout that you must for all new phones, you'll love it.
Rating: 9.5/10

Re: LG VX8700 Review
I'm wondering about the whole opening flat thing. Is that a good thing. I mean I use to have a problem with phones opening flat because they could open to far to the point of breaking but how is the comfort use of that?

Re: LG VX8700 Review
here's some gee-wiz information for you.
Ver. 01 of the software has issues with the bluetooth. It would ether not pair with alot of BT devices or once paired would disconnect.
They released Ver. 02 flash. Fixed the bluetooth issue, BUT now the phone crashes out randomly while txting and taling pictures. And freezes in some cases while making calls.
LG has promiced that Ver. 03 of the s/w will fix this current issue.Current Phones: Sam SCH-u740 (black), LG VX10000,RIM BB-8130, Sam SCH-u900 (black), Palm Treo 700p
