    Re: Motorola Droid X Review

Well, I have had mine now for about 2 weeks. Here's my look at the phone.

Remember now, I have been using a Blackberry for a very long time, so a lot of my views will be based on that fact.

First, it is a awesome phone overall. The screen is amazing. Its very easy to get used to if you have owned a previous smart phone.

Typing is not bad on it. Just takes some getting used to. The Swipe feature is fantastic and fun to use.

Applications are abundant, so anything you've had on any other smart phone you can find for this phone.

The speed is amazing also. A LOT faster than my Blackberry Tour. Internet is great on this phone. The squeeze feature should be on all smartphones.... just great. I really enjoy getting on the Internet again with my phone because of that feature.

I could go on with the positive, but I think what most people are more interested in, is the negative.

Ok, so the number one and biggest problem I have with this phone is the battery life. It is nothing short of terrible. Now I am basing this on my personal use. I am a Electrical Service Tech for my company, as well as Lead Electrician, and to top all that off, I am one of our 24 hour emergency service guys. I also have to do conference calls with customers to build panels for them.

So to say I am on my phone a lot is probably an understatement. I had a program on my Blackberry that would tell me how many phone calls, text messages, and email I would get in a day, it also did weekly and monthly averages. I average around 35 phone calls, 52 emails, and 76 text messages in an average 10 hour work day.

So now you can compare my use to yours. I will drain the battery down to 15% by lunch, and have to charge it up. I will then drain it down again by the end of the day, and have to charge it on car charger on the way home and then put it on the house charger once I get home.

I never had to do that with my Tour. It would get low on heavier use, but never as bad as this phone is.

Now, to me, this next one and the one after are probably going to be the killer for this phone for me.

Volume! It is none existent on this phone. I have downloaded every ring tone I can think of or have to get
to be able to hear this phone. I just can't. I carry the phone in a pouch on my side that is made for the X and not in my pocket. (To afraid of cracking that massive screen). On the floor of my shop, I have to constantly stop work, and see if I have missed any calls. People standing right beside me say they can't hear the phone either. It is just horrible.

I haven't found a widget to increase the sound yet, though I am still looking. If any of you Droid user's have found one let me know please.

Second killer for this phone is the Vibrate. Once again, it's just terrible. One small buzz and that's it. I have found a widget that will let me make my own length which has helped. I have it setup now to do two long vibrates, then ring, then do 5 long vibrates after the ring. It has helped, but not by much. I cannot feel it when it's in the pouch 9/10th's of the time.

Being able to individualize ring tones and vibrates per specific programs is another drawback I have with this phone. I have my Blackberry setup to ring and vibrate differently for personal email, company email, MMS, SMS, etc. This phone won't let me do that. They have specific ring tones, and vibrate sequences and they cannot be altered. Or lets say I haven't found any yet.

I should point out, that I don't like having to pay for programs or widgets, so I look for free applications.

Another thing I don't like is the back button. If your in a program and hit the back button, it don't take you back one step, it will take you back to the home screen every time. It's just plain annoying.

I don't like the double lock feature if thats what you want to call it. When the screen goes blank, you have to press the button on top to bring the screen back up, then you have to slide the unlock key. Why do two things? Luckily I found a widget that will let me get rid of the slide lock so when I push the top button to unlock and bring the screen up, the phone is unlocked.

Well, those are my biggest complaints about this phone. I am going to keep it another week to give it a fair shake if you will, and try to find programs that will help with the problems I do have with the phone.

I will come back and let everybody know how it goes, and if I did switch, to what phone I went to.

Right now I am trying to give Droid every chance to win me over, and may grab a Droid 2 and see if that will work.
You are CRUNCHY, and taste good with Ketchup!!

I have this phone and its amazing! I don't know how you're having problems with hearing this thing. It's so loud that it startles me sitting on my desk. I guess I get what you are saying as when I am walking on the street with it in my pocket I sometimes miss notifications, especially if I have the "droid" sound enabled. It's just too base-y. I changed it to "moonbeams" and (although a little girly sounding) I don't miss a single one.

    Re: Motorola Droid X Review

I find it amazing how people want to have every feature in the world but don't want to pay for it. HELLO!!!! This is a free market society that brings products to the consumer for a PRICE!!! How long would a company be in business if they would provide the phones and the services for free??? Get a grip people. While i don't dispute that some of the prices are a bit high, they are at what the market supports. If the prices were too high, people would not subscribe to them. While we complain about them, we still pay it. Unless and until we do not pay the prices offered, the companies will continue to charge the prices they do because they are being paid for. Prices may reduce later but they will never go free because the company needs to make money to stay in business. Quit complaining that something is not free. Try developing the product yourself and give it away. Or is that too much to ask. Is your time and effort worth the money? Why isn't someone else's time and effort worth something as well? I want it free i want it free i want it free. Then go to a communist country where everything is supposed to be equal and free and tell me how that works for ya! Get a grip!!

The best review of this phone to date! I own one of these beauties and haven't seen a better phone out on the market yet. The HTCs feel like a toy compared to this superphone.

Motorola has been developing revolutionary features and Droid has been one of those. Definitely, pays with a price. and to keep the business going. Although, some manufacturers/providers really charge bit high.

I just got this phone. Upgraded from the original droid. It's a god sent! I almost got the new thunderbolt, but I don't have 4G in my area (not yet anyways). I'm super happy with my new phone.
