i'm looking into getting a family plan with cingular thru tigerdirect.com

2 yr warranty for 2 free razr + 9.99 shipped for the 2nd RAZR

    Welcome to our Wireless World

i just wanted to know your opinions on Cingular coverage in Houston, good bad? or should i stick to SprintPCS. also, i'm not too familiar with Motorola phones, but does the RAZR have a SIM card? i read that it's QUAD-BAND so would i be able to use it in ASIA: Philippines. lastly, could i swap the SIM card with local sim cards from the Philippines?

    thanks

Hey I can only answer a few of your questions. I live in Houston and reception is good with cingular if you have an up to date phone. I currently have a V180 (piece of crap by the way) and my reception is good at some times bad at others...but I know for a fact that this is because of the phone. The rest of my family has excellent reception with their Motorola phones combined with the Cingular service. The RAZR does have a sim card, but I don't know anything about its compatability with other country designs. Most all carriers will have good reception in the Houston area due to its size, so if you have pretty good reception with Sprint and call quality is the only reason you are thinking about switching, then I would stick with Sprint (if you are happy with them). If you are wanting to switch to Cingular for the RAZR and the possibility of use in the Philippines, then you would be happy with Cingular. It probably won't be a huge upgrade in call quality from Sprint (unless your call quality is poor), but it definitaly will not be going down.

    Hmm....that was a tad long.

Summary: Yes, I suggest Cingular in the Houston area. Yes, the RAZR has a sim card. And I THINK, but I'm not certain that it would work in Asia.

As long as the RAZR in unlocked, it will work. Quadband just means that it uses all frequencies, 850/1900/1800/1900Mhz. 850/1900 is predominantly used in the US, 900/1800 in areas like Asia & Europe. That is, if you are using Cingular (or any other GSM provider).

There are 2 versions of the RAZR, GSM and CDMA. Sprint and Verizon are the major carriers that use CDMA. CDMA and GSM are both digital wireless technologies. However , they are not compatible with each other. So if you were to stay with Sprint, you cannot use the phone overseas because they use GSM. Besides, the CDMA version of the RAZR (called RAZR V3c) does not use a SIM card (as for any other CDMA phone). So if you plan on getting a RAZR and using it in the Philippines, switch to Cingular. Also, if you're going to use another GSM other than the RAZR, get one that has at least 900/1800Mhz.

Motorola has some great phones and crappy phones. It just depends on each model. But then again, that also applies to other cell phone brands. The SLVR L7 is really nice, but that's my opinion. Just do some research in what you need in a phone. And when you do get your new Cingular phones, you can change with another phone of similar value within its 30-day grace period.

one last question, are all SIM cards the same? i know most ppl in the Philippines have Nokia phones, could i swap my family members SIM into mine?

If you mean that they are the same size, then yes they are. And as long as your phone is unlocked, yes, you can swap SIM cards. One thing that you can do is contact Cingular, inform them that you would like to use your phone outside of the US, and you wish to use a pre-paid Sim card from another country. If you're going to use your phone alot, it would be best to get a pre-paid SIM card from a provider in the Philippines and use it instead of your Cingular service because you would be roaming, and you will get charged.
