As its name suggests, the HTC First has been the first Facebook Home-centric smartphone to hit the market. It's been out and about for roughly a month now, and apparently, AT&T has just sweetened the deal and started offering the gadget at a discount.

Normally the HTC First would set you back $99 on a 2-year contract, but you can now get the device for only $0.99 on the same 2-year agreement.

In other words, the First is basically free (on-contract, so you'll still have to pay your monthly fees), but if you were waiting for an opportunity like this then you'll have to act quickly. Reports claim that the offer is not here to stay, and that AT&T will soon bring the price up again.

As for what you'll get for your money, the HTC First packs a 4.3 inch 720 x 1280 display, a Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 5 MP -1.6 MP camera combo, Android 4.1 out of the box and a 2,000 mAh battery. But don't let the presence of Jelly Bean fool you. This gadget offers a heavily modified user interface and does not resemble Android 4.1. It basically runs on Facebook Home, the application / launcher that is also available for download on various other Android smartphones via the Google Play store.

That being said, you're most likely going to enjoy the HTC First experience if you're a Facebook enthusiast. If not, then think twice before making a purchase.
