Not long ago Samsung has announced the Galaxy Xcover 2, a mid-range ruggedized smartphone boasting Android 4.1 out of the box and the latest TouchWiz Nature user interface on top. However, if the Xcover 2 is not really ticking all the right boxes for you then you might be interested in Sprint's alternative.

The carrier in question has just announced the Kyocera Torque, an Android-powered smartphone that also fits the mid-range market segment.

The Kyocera Torque features a 4-inch IPS LCD IPS display featuring a resolution of 480 x 800, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of ROM, storage that is expandable by up to 32 GB via microSD, a 5 MP camera on the back coupled with a 1.3 MP front-facing sensor, 4G, NFC, a 2,500 mAh battery to keep everything running and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

That covers the internal hardware, but what about the "resilient" aspect of the device? Well, Sprint claims that the Kyocera Torque can handle extreme temperatures between -22 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 to 60 degrees Celsius), it can survive for up to 30 minutes immersed in one meter of water and can easily survive other things that would most likely kill your non-ruggedized smartphone. The handset has been dropped 26 times from a height of four feet and survived without any issues, so if you're worried that your newly purchased device might break if mishandled, then the Torque might just be the answer.

Unfortunately no details regarding pricing and availability have been revealed by Sprint so far, but now that the device is official I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will go on sale pretty soon. Anyone interested in this device? Drop us a line and let us know.
