What do these terms refer to? I know a lot of people say they need there phone unlocked but I dont understand why..

I have an outta the box Motorola V3 from Rogers and I use my palm pilot to sync up with bluetooth to add/remove things onto it. Is that what Unlocking a phone does?

well thanks for some of that info but unlock just means I can put in a new SIM card and changed to a different provider? It doesnt have anything to do with trasnfer of images, games, ring tones etc?

No, that's different. You would do that either with software and a data cable, or with WAP wireless web uploads. Try emailing some files to your phone's email address, or try a free upload service. You could even get a bluetooth kit and transfer wirelessly directly from your pc to phone. Try using the site's search feature for more info on all of that, I've read about it in lots of other threads. I'll look around. Good luck

    Lock/unlock pertain's to GSM phones.

Lock means that a phone has been branded/locked to a certain Service Provider. (Rogers for example)

Unlocked mean the phone can be used on any GSM provider.
