Hi, all. I am contemplating on purchasing a "new, never opened" phone from the bay, however the seller is requiring the buyer's current cell phone number as a stipulation for purchasing. The seller claims they need it to validate the the buyer will purchase for use instead of attempting to resell the phone. I haven't seen any other sellers require the phone number. Is this common? Does it sound legit?
Thanks!

Re: Ebay legitimacy
You should not need to give your phone number. You should not purchase your phone from anyone who is not an authorized dealer for the phone company. There are authorized dealers that sell on Ebay. You may have to pay a little more than if you buy from an "unknown" but you're spending too much in the first place to risk buying from someone who is not an authorized dealer. And check your Ebay seller's feedback from other buyers.
P.S. - I bought two phones from an authorized Verizon dealer on Ebay and am very happy with the transactions. And I did not have to give them my phone number.
