The majority of cell phones I want to buy are the kind mostly designed for European customers so they have the 900/1800/1900 bands... I've tried to search all over this forum for feedback from people who done so already, no luck.

I live in Houston, TX (huge metropolitan area) and commute to and from Austin now and then along rural highways; I also visit NYC and Chicago often. If I buy one of the European triband phones and use T-Mobile, does the absence of 850/using only 1900 become a nuisance?

Some people say 850 penetrates better through buildings (good for calls at the mall) or that 1900 is primarily used in business areas and 850 for rural.. any weight to this? B.c then I'll just get a quad-band unit.
