Just looking for some more info.

From what i see CDMA is actually superiour, but that most of the world uses GSM.

Now main thing im wondering is are all GSM phones sim card phones? Cause thats sort of confusing. Why GSM has sim cards and CDMA does not? The differences between the two dont cause one to use a sim card and one not to?

Its not by technology its just choice right? CDMA could also use sim cards if they chose too right?

Im wondering cause im waiting for Tegra to drop and since its on ATT am i safe to assume it will be a GSM phone?

The last time i had a GSM phone was.... idk 10 years ago? So im not really sure how they work. You can just take out the sim card and put it in any GSM phone right? The old school nokia whatever it was. LOL

But so basically pros and cons are...
GSM allows to switch phones with no interaction from SP
CDMA wants you to come talk to them everytime you gotta go to the bathroom. But the signal and all that jazz is actually superior?

This is a matter of opinion really...

ATT is GSM, yes. IMO, ATT is an inferior network to Verizon (CDMA) but that also depends on where you are located.

I just wanna know why CDMA doesnt do sim cards. I like the fact of being able to get a phone with no interaction from my SP. Of course i guess it dont matter cause my phone is on its last leg and im going wherever tegra goes. Which is ATT. I know verizon is the mac daddy of communication right now but i gotta get a tegra phone. Ill go verizon if they get a tegra phone.

CDMA carriers in the US chose to not use sim cards.

No one has a tegra phone right now....

Re: Difference between GSM and CDMA?

Phone selection is always better on GSM. I dont believe CDMA is so much better the GSM. If it was much more better, there would be a world wide competition between GSM and CDMA. This comptetition prevails in the USA. Even Canada's Bell and Telus started an HSDPA network, making them able to provide GSM phone selection.

Re: Difference between GSM and CDMA?

I think this is a matter of opinion really, for me GSM gives me the ability to use an unlocked device and use it pretty much anywhere in the world which is not the same case for a CDMA device, also as mentioned by tbaker, phone selection is so much greater.

Re: Difference between GSM and CDMA?

As Tony mentioned, the ability to use an unlocked GSM phone with the proper frequencies gives me much better choice than being restricted a certain providers device option like CDMA carriers.

The ability to use a GSM phone worldwide is also a plus and the advantage of putting a local SIM from that country is extremely helpful as well.

So, for me the choice is simpleit is GSM, but that is just my opinion and a few others on this thread. .

As for which is better technology, there is no clear defination. CDMA travels further, thus requiring less towers in rural areas. GSM fares far better in urban areas than rural areas mostly for this reason.
