Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap Battery under Device
- Tap Menu > Battery saver
- Tap the switch to enable Battery saver
Turn Off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS:
NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by disabling the phones connectivity features when they are not in use. To do this:
- Drag the Status bar down from the home screen
- Tap the tiles associated with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location (GPS) to disable these features
- To change how GPS works, go to Settings > Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
Use 2G instead of 4G:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Cellular networks > Preferred network type
- Select 3G or 2G
- To return to 4G, select LTE
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display and if necessary, turn off Adaptive brightness
- Tap Brightness level and drag the slider towards the left
- Return to the Display menu and tap Sleep
- Select a lower value, like 15 seconds
Change the Sync Settings:
NOTE: By setting your phone / accounts to sync less data or less often, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account, tap Sync and disable the desired sync options
Minimize the Use of 3rd Party Applications:
NOTE: Certain third party aps can affect your phones battery performance even when you dont use them assuming that the respective apps run regular processes in the background. That being said, you might be able to battery life in the long run by disabling or removing unused third party apps.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Go to the Downloaded section and select the desired app
- Tap Disable, or tap Uninstall > OK to completely remove it
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software update can include improvements to battery life. As such you should keep your phone up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to About phone and tap System updates
- Check of a new update is available. If it is, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it
