Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Turn on “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. For more options, go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. To reduce timeout duration, tap “Sleep” and choose a lower value

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS when not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location”, and “Bluetooth” tiles to turn the features OFF
  3. For additional GPS options, go to “Settings” and tap “Location”
  4. Tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Then, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Switch to 2G Connectivity:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes, and thus they can technically affect battery life even when they are not in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable it
  5. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Another way to remove an app is by opening the apps drawer and dragging & dropping the app’s shortcut on top of the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ / apps’ settings to minimize sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Accounts” and select an account to change its sync settings

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. TO check if new software updates are available for download:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply available updates (NOTE: the update process will require a reboot)
