WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: For a guide on how to back up and restore data before mastering resetting the device, visit this thread.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Tap Backup & reset > Factory data reset
- Check the Warning pop-up and tap Reset phone when ready
- If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the PIN / password to proceed
- Tap Continue > Reset Phone
- When prompted, reboot your phone to complete the process
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If you are unable to reset the phone through the method above, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as described below:
- First make sure the device is powered off
- Then, press and hold Power for a couple of seconds, then quickly press and hold Volume Up too
- Keep the buttons pressed until the Select Boot Mode screen appears (release the buttons at this screen)
- Press Volume Up to cycle through the available options and highlight Recovery Mode
- Press Volume down (or Volume down + Volume up) to select the highlighted option
- After a few seconds you should see an image of an Android laying down
- At this screen, press and release Volume Up and Power at the same time to gain access to the Android system recovery menu
- In Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power
- Once the reset is done, press Power with Reboot system now highlighted
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After a fresh factory reset, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap About phone > Additional system updates
- Tap Software Update and check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates. WARNING: the update process will require at least one reboot
