Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the tiles associated with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location (GPS) to turn the features OFF
- For additional GPS options, first go to Settings
- Then tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To turn Off Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and then set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by switching to 2G networks temporarily.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Network, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Turn on 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open the Settings menu for additional options
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- You can enable or disable Adaptive brightness optionally
- Tap Sleep and select a screen lower timeout value
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts / apps sync settings to minimize sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an account
- Enable / disable the available sync options as desired
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By turning off or uninstalling unused apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Tap Apps under Device
- Make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Tap the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app, or:
- Tap Uninstall to remove the app
NOTE: Alternatively you can uninstall apps by opening the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the desired apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Up to Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
