Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider to the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and enable or disable Automatic brightness
- For more timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS when unused, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location tiles to disable these features
- For additional options open Settings
- Tap Location (GPS) > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Then tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Turn on 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is enabled from the drop-down menu at the top
- Tap the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force stop
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another way to uninstall an app is by opening the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps / accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account to change its sync settings
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and as such, its generally recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply available updates. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot. Save any unsaved work before proceeding
