Turn ON Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings for additional options
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, you can turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- To reduce timeout duration, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when unused, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- One the home screen, use two fingers to drag the Status bar down
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location tiles to disable these features
- For more options, open Settings
- Tap Location (GPS), then tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To turn off Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the option
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: IF your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Turn on 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps / accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select the desired account to change its sync settings
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes. As such they can potentially affect battery life even when not in use. By disabling or uninstalling unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: You can also remove apps from the phone by opening the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the Software Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if new OS updates are available:
- First open Settings
- Then scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
