Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Turn “Battery saver” ON

Lower Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left side of the display
  3. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and, optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. To reduce timeout duration, tap “Sleep” and choose a lower value like “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By turning OFF unused connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when these features are unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to turn the features OFF
  3. Go to “Settings” for additional options
  4. Scroll to and tap “Location”
  5. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  6. To turn Wi-Fi Hotspot OFF, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the option OFF

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by switching to 2G networks.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Access “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when not in use. By removing or disabling unused third party applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is checked in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall” to confirm

NOTE: Another way to uninstalling an app is to open the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your apps’ / accounts’ sync settings to minimize sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Accounts” and select an account to change its sync settings

Keep the Operating System Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll down to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if new updates are available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install available updates. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so it’s recommended to save any unsaved work before proceeding
