Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen,
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, you can choose to enable or disable Adaptive Brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location (GPS) tiles to turn the features OFF
- For additional options, open Settings
- Scroll to and tap Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Go back to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Go to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Access Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life even when not in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- Tap Disable / Force Stop to disable the app or tap Uninstall to remove it
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can gain battery life in the long run by changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to reduce sync.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account to change its sync settings
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and as such, its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if new OS updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply available updates. NOTE: the updating process will require at least one reboot
