Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and optionally, you can enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning off your phone’s connectivity features when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Location”, “Wi-Fi” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options, and go to “Location” (GPS)
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the option

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and access “Accounts”
  3. Select an account and turn OFF the desired sync options

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party app can perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. As such, by disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop”
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Another method to uninstall an app is to drag the app’s shortcut from the apps drawer and drop it onto the “Uninstall” section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts).

Keep the Software Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, thus it’s recommended to keep the OS update at all times.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if new updates are available for download
  4. If applicable, download and apply the new update(s). NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
