Turn Battery Saving Mode On:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phones battery performance even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop
- Tap Uninstall to remove the app
NOTE: Another method for removing an app is to open the apps drawer and then drag & drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts)
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an account
- Disable the desired sync options for the selected account to reduce sync
Disable Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By turning Off the phones connectivity features when they are not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features Off
- For more options go to Settings
- Tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot
- Set the switch OFF
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery life and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life so its recommended to keep the software up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if new updates are available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
