Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Turn Battery saver On
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Return to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for screen timeout options and select a lower value
Turn the Phones Connectivity Features Off:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Location and Bluetooth - you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Open Settings for additional options
- Go to Location and tap Mode
- Enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Turn Tethering & portable hotspot Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: IF your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the accounts settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Third party apps can perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. As such, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from your phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app instead, tap Uninstall
NOTE: You can also remove an app by dragging its shortcut from the apps drawer and dropping it over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: The update process may require a reboot)
