Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when unused, such as Wi-Fi, Location (GPS), Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to turn the features OFF
  3. For additional options, go to “Settings”
  4. Scroll to and tap “Location” (GPS) > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. Return to “Settings”
  6. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Turn “Tethering & portable hotspot” Off

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your smartphone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Turn “2G” On

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account
  5. Change the accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop”
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Alternatively you can uninstall an app by dragging the app’s shortcut and dropping it over the “Uninstall” section at the top of the home screen (visible only when dragging app shortcuts).

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
