Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Turn the Phones Connectivity Features OFF:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity features when unused including Wi-Fi, Location (GPS), Bluetooth, and Hotspot you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Return to Settings
- Scroll to and tap Location (GPS)
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Disable Tethering & portable hotspot
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your smartphone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps form the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and ensure All Apps is selected from the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another method to remove an app is to open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts sync settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the accounts sync settings to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
