Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Adjust Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For screen timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value preferably
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off the phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location (GPS) and Hotspot, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi quick toggles to disable the options
- Open Settings and tap Location (GPS)
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Turn Tethering & portable hotspot Off
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type and enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the accounts sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes, which can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps on your phone, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Alternatively you can remove an app by dragging its shortcut and dropping it over the Uninstall section at the top, visible only when dragging third party app shortcuts.
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
