Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By changing your phones connectivity features including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location (GPS) quick toggles to disable these features
- Next open Settings for more options
- Tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Preferred networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Next open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For screen timeout settings, tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select the desired account
- Change the available sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- If necessary, switch to All apps from the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall to confirm
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
