Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location (GPS) quick-toggles to turn the features Off
- Open Settings and go to Location for additional GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the feature Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
- Next go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop / Disable to stop the app or
- Tap Uninstall to remove the app
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account type and account
- Change the available sync options to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS Updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update. NOTE: this process will require at least one reboot
