Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Scroll to “Device”
  5. Tap “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” (GPS) quick toggles to disable the features
  3. For more options open “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, go to “Wireless & Networks” under “More” in “Settings”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Access “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your accounts/apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account
  5. Change the available sync settings

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes that can affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device”
  3. Make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the device, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” to check if new updates are available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
