Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
- Open Settings for more options
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location (GPS) quick toggles to disable the features
- For more options open Settings
- Tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, go to Wireless & Networks under More in Settings
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your accounts/apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the available sync settings
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes that can affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps under Device
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the device, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates to check if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
