Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused – including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS – you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Location”, “Wi-Fi” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” and tap “Location” for more GPS options
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Then tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the feature off

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type”
  5. Select “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen brightness
  3. Next open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
  5. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as “15 seconds”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the device, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Select “All apps” from the drop-down menu
  4. Tap the desired application and press “Force Stop” to disable it
  5. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account type
  4. Select an account and change the available settings to reduce sync

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone” > “System updates”
  3. Check if a new update is available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
