Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the status bar down
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device”
  5. Tap “Display” and enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep”
  7. Select a lower timeout value like 15 seconds

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: You can conserve battery life by disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot.

  1. Swipe the status bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” for GPS options, then tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Temporarily Switching to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account
  5. Change the account’s sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use, By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps”
  4. Go to “All apps” in the drop-down menu at the top
  5. Select the desired application
  6. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop”
  7. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available for download
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
