Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Turn Battery saver ON
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- From the quick toggle area, drag the Brightness towards the left to decrease brightness
- Next open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Turn the Phones Connectivity Features OFF:
NOTE: By disabling the devices connectivity features when not actively in use such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Location, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- Launch Settings next
- Then scroll to and tap Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings for additional options and tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Options:
NOTE: You can reduce the amount of data synced by your apps/accounts in order to improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type
- Tap the account whose sync settings you want to change
- Disable the desired sync options
Minimize Third party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when the apps are not open in the foreground. Thus you can disable or remove unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force Stop
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
